Senior Mechanical Engineer

to lead the mechanical design, development, and deployment of automated systems for demanding high-stakes environments. Position Overview: The Senior Mechanical Engineer will be responsible for the design, integration, and continuous improvement of custom automation equipment with a primary focus on

munitions assembly ,

explosives manufacturing , and

robotic and conveyor-based systems . This role requires deep mechanical engineering expertise, a rigorous approach to safety and compliance, and hands-on experience delivering systems for complex and hazardous environments. Key Responsibilities: Lead the design and development of custom mechanical systems for automation cells involving

munitions and explosives . Engineer safe, reliable, and compliant mechanical solutions for

explosives manufacturing and handling . Develop and integrate

robotic arms ,

automated assembly systems ,

conveyors , and

material handling solutions . Manage full lifecycle of mechanical design: requirements, concept generation, detailed CAD modeling, FEA, BOM creation, and manufacturing support. Collaborate with electrical, controls, and software teams to ensure cohesive system design and functionality. Review and ensure compliance with relevant industry standards and defense safety protocols (e.g., ATEX, MIL-STD, NFPA). Participate in onsite installation, commissioning, and troubleshooting of automated systems. Mentor junior engineers and support cross-functional engineering initiatives. Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or related field (Master’s preferred). 8+ years of mechanical engineering experience , with a strong background in: Munitions or explosives manufacturing/assembly Robotic integration Conveyor and material handling systems Proficient in 3D CAD tools (SolidWorks, Inventor, or similar). Familiar with FEA tools and design for manufacturability (DFM). Working knowledge of pneumatic/hydraulic systems, motion systems, and safety interlocks. Strong understanding of risk assessment and hazard mitigation in explosive environments. Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, multidisciplinary team. Preferred Qualifications: Experience with

defense/military contractors , DOD projects, or ITAR compliance. Knowledge of

explosion-proof (ATEX or Class I Div 1/2)

equipment design. Hands-on fabrication or prototyping experience. Familiarity with controls, PLCs, and automation software from a mechanical perspective. PE license or equivalent is a plus.
