Overview
Are you interested in working in a dynamic environment building the power and transmission infrastructure required to meet present and future needs in North America? Quanta Infrastructure Solutions Group (QISG) is a rapidly growing construction management and geo-structural engineering company within the Quanta Services (Quanta) family of companies. Quanta, the largest civil construction workforce in North America focused on the Power and Transmission Sector, is meeting the nation’s energy, utility, and communication needs head-on. QISG is seeking project geotechnical and/or structural engineering professionals interested in supporting large-scale engineering and construction projects throughout North America by providing geo-structural design solutions to our construction partners and clients. About this Role
A Project Engineer within QISG is involved in various geo-structural engineering projects, focusing on foundation engineering and emphasizing design-build delivery methods for large-scale energy and transmission projects. Collaborating with an in-house, multi-disciplinary engineering and construction team—including civil, structural, geotechnical, construction management, and construction experts—a Project Engineer plays a crucial role in providing geo-structural design solutions on large projects. Responsibilities include overseeing and supporting design production, contributing to the development of construction drawings and specifications, and providing engineering support during construction. This role is an office-based position primarily focused on executing pre-construction geotechnical investigations, performing geotechnical and structural engineering calculations and modeling, and developing design documents to support foundation, retaining wall, and general civil construction. The Project Engineer will apply standard and advanced engineering principles under the oversight of a Senior Professional Engineer to solve complex problems, utilizing sound engineering judgment, field data, and digital technologies to develop economical solutions and communicate effectively with project teams. Key Responsibilities
Execute assignments requiring application of standard and advanced engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria to carry out geo-structural engineering tasks. Perform engineering analyses for the design of deep foundations (helical piers, drilled shafts, micropiles, driven piles, anchors, etc.) and retaining structures. Oversee and/or manage engineering analyses performed by other QISG staff and/or project professionals for various civil engineering structures. Perform limit equilibrium and finite element stability modeling for soil and rock slopes and retaining structures. Interface closely with other project-level and senior leadership personnel within the company, including geotechnical, geological, structural, transmission line, and civil engineering, GIS, and construction management team members. Participate in oversight and management of field subcontractor activities, such as geotechnical drilling, testing, and forensics studies. Develop written reports and provide verbal communication of information professionally and appropriately under the supervision of a Senior Professional Engineer. Perform occasional site visits to project sites throughout North America. Participate in sector-focused professional organizations and industry events, including attendance and presentations. Work under supervision of a Senior Engineer or Project Manager in a professional office setting. Required Experience and Education
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field. Professional Engineer (P.E.) licensure. Minimum four (4) years of design experience in geotechnical, structural, transmission, or substation engineering. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams. Ability to work with moderate supervision and maximum efficiency in a small or medium office setting. Master’s degree in geotechnical engineering or engineering geology (preferred). Familiarity with geotechnical standards such as USCS, ISRM rock quality scale, and others. Experience with software such as LPILE, GROUP, FAD, GRLWeap, SHAFT, APILE, SLIDE, RS2, Plaxis, RISA, INVENTOR, or SPColumn. Travel Requirements
Up to 20% of the work year.
