Qualifications
The successful Building Commissioning Engineer candidate will have five or more years of project management experience with mechanical, electrical, plumbing (MEP) and building automation systems, including design, controls systems integration and implementation, troubleshooting, testing, adjusting, balancing and facility operations.
This person will have hands-on building automation controls commissioning, equipment start-up, and operations experience.
Certified Commissioning Authority (CxA) or equivalent
Completed Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field
Demonstrated project management experience is a must
Past Experience
Qualified applicants will have experience in these areas:
Commissioning of mechanical HVAC equipment, knowledge, and experience (at least 3 years of experience)
Digital lighting controls (at least 2 years of experience)
Digital HVAC controls (at least 2 years of experience)
Developing mechanical and lighting controls sequence of operations
Energy management system monitoring and control
Energy auditing and analysis
Leading contractor and consultant commissioning meetings
Creating and maintaining commissioning issues logs
Job Responsibilities
Qualified and experienced applicants will be expected to independently lead and manage building commissioning projects from award to close-out and turnover to client.
This includes:
Performing commissioning focused reviews of MEP design drawings and specifications, building controls system sequences, and equipment submittals.
Reviewing the Owner’s Project Requirements and Basis of Design documents.
Proficiently generating all supporting Cx documentation, including commissioning plans and commissioning specifications, project specific pre-functional and functional performance testing procedures, and writing commissioning reports.
Developing, maintaining, and distributing both design and construction phase issues logs, with a focus on expediting issues resolution.
Performing construction site visits to identify and document discrepancies, including generating site visit reports summarizing each visit through all project phases.
Leading and completing functional performance testing with support from commissioning team members, as applicable.
Possessing thorough knowledge and understanding of building automation systems (BAS) and being able to use and manipulate BAS independently from contractors/owner personnel.
Demonstrating in-depth knowledge and understanding of systems and equipment
Ability to read and thoroughly understand MEP and architectural construction documents, plans, specifications, etc.
Strong familiarity with cloud-based construction and commissioning platforms (ProCore, Bluebeam, BlueRithm, etc).
Demonstrating exceptional communication skills in all situations.
Maintaining a high level of transparency and open communication in a virtual and remote work environment.
Demonstrate exceptional project management skills:
Managing time and budget for each project to ensure tasks are completed in a timely manner, with enough planning to avoid delays, ensuring client and company needs are being met and avoid cost overruns.
Providing clear, transparent and regular status updates on projects.
Managing multiple projects of varying sizes and complexities.
Coordinating commissioning activities into a project construction schedules.
Travel Requirements
Alpers Engineering Group serves clients in San Diego and throughout the Southern California region, and therefore requires some travel for this employment position. The successful candidate will work out of a home office in an 80/20 hybrid structure and be able and willing to travel to project sites regularly to complete work to meet project demands.
