Staff Perception Software Engineer – Autonomous Vehicle Systems
We are representing a fast-scaling technology company developing cutting-edge autonomous vehicle platforms. They are seeking a Staff Perception Software Engineer to lead the design and development of intelligent perception systems that power autonomy across complex, real-world environments.
This is a high-impact role where you’ll shape the algorithms and systems responsible for situational awareness, object detection, and environmental understanding for next-generation autonomous mobility.
Location:
Flexible across the U.S. with a preference for candidates near major tech hubs (Austin, San Francisco Bay Area, Seattle).
Compensation Package:
- Base Salary Range: $170,000 – $240,000 (depending on experience)
- Annual Bonus: Up to 20%

Role Overview:
As a Staff Perception Software Engineer, you will serve as a technical leader in the development of advanced perception pipelines. You’ll architect and optimize systems that fuse sensor data (LiDAR, camera, radar) and deliver real-time, accurate understanding of the surrounding environment to support safe autonomous decision-making.
Key Responsibilities:
- Design and implement core perception algorithms for detection, classification, tracking, and scene understanding
- Lead integration of multi-modal sensor data (LiDAR, radar, camera) into robust, real-time pipelines
- Develop scalable, efficient code for deployment on embedded and vehicle compute platforms
- Work closely with autonomy, mapping, and systems teams to integrate perception into full-stack autonomy
- Conduct data-driven performance tuning and optimization across real-world edge cases
- Provide technical mentorship and help establish best practices across the perception team
Qualifications:
- M.S. or Ph.D. in Computer Science, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or related field
- 7+ years of experience in perception software, computer vision, or robotics
- Strong proficiency in C++ (modern standards) and Python
- Hands-on experience with one or more of the following:
- Deep learning for perception (e.g., object detection, semantic segmentation)
- Multi-sensor fusion and tracking
- 3D point cloud processing (e.g., PCL, Open3D)
- Real-time systems and software optimization
Preferred Experience:
- Experience deploying perception systems on AVs, UAVs, or robotics platforms
- Familiarity with ROS, TensorRT, CUDA, or hardware acceleration
- Experience with large-scale data processing and simulation environments
- Knowledge of safety certification processes (e.g., ISO 26262, ASIL)
