Elm Community Charter School is seeking an innovative School Leader with foundational knowledge and experience in developing interdisciplinary and inquiry-based curriculum, as well as an in-depth understanding of early childhood and elementary-level literacy, math, and science skills. As the head of school, the Principal will collaborate with all directors and instructional leaders in overseeing smooth operations, a joyful school environment, a collaborative staff culture, and an excellent academic program, curriculum creation and alignment, professional development for the staff, school-wide assessments and data. Reporting to the Central Leadership Team, the Principal will be a results-driven leader using data to make decisions to promote student achievement. During the Planning year, the Founding Middle School Principal will collaborate with the Central Team in creating a Middle School Academic Program aligned to the school’s vision and mission. Additionally, the planning year will also have a high emphasis on alignment with the elementary school and thus include responsibilities on leading current elementary level grade teams and support with elementary-level curricular development. Responsibilities Committed to the actualization of Elm’s vision and academic model through high quality curriculum and instruction; In collaboration with the Director of Operations, oversees smooth operations of school building including arrival, breakfast, lunch, and dismissal duties; Oversees instructional leadership team in all school-wide initiatives related to the academic program; Works with the Central Team and school-based Director of Operations on high level budgetary decisions; Works with leadership team on the execution of budget and staying within limits; Is the main face of the school in the community, working to build a strong, mutually respectful connection between the school and families and other stakeholders; Ensures effective and efficient communication between all stakeholders (parents, teachers, leaders, operations); In collaboration with the leadership team, creates a joyful school environment where learners and teachers thrive. This involves overseeing school committees, school initiatives, and consistent opportunities for staff feedback; Oversees the cultivating of a joyful student culture, including school-wide initiatives, committee initiatives, and counseling team supports; Oversees all afterschool programs and initiatives; Reporting to the Executive Director, oversees all disciplinary action, incident reports, safety and crisis protocols; In collaboration with the Director of Operations, oversees school-wide initiatives that foster open communication with parents; In collaboration with the Executive Director, oversees the creation of all curriculum scope and sequences, and assessments, in order to ensure continuity of Elm’s academic model, vertical and horizontal alignment; Oversees the implementation of all curriculum, instructional materials, and best practices aligned to Elm’s vision and charter; Leads the academic program including school schedule, implementation of curriculum, teacher development, and teacher performance; In collaboration with the leadership team, creates the priorities of the year and leads directors in school-wide instructional initiatives; Ensures high academic outcomes identified in Elm’s charter; Leads the leadership team in the creation of innovative high quality professional development for all teachers in alignment with Elm’s pedagogy; Leads leadership team in the execution of supportive and effective teacher evaluations, adjusting teacher development and initiatives according to data and feedback; Provides individual staff support (e.g. coaching, co-planning) in the implementation of curriculum, coaching and evaluating staff around execution and best practices; Oversees the data and assessments at the school, including quarterly data reports that informs leader and teacher initiatives, annual and quarterly goals and priorities; Closely monitors student achievement and growth to adjust curriculum, schedules, and teacher professional development; Oversees and coordinates state testing including logistics, test preparation, testing accommodations and modifications; Collaborates with the Director of Student Supports in Elm’s Response to Intervention Protocol (RtI); advocating for our school design when it comes to special education, skips and holdovers, and diagnosing trends to create effective, actionable plans to change student outcomes; and Keeps a pulse on staff morale, spearheading morale-building initiatives; In collaboration with the Executive Director and Director of Operations, leads in staff recruitment and retention efforts; Leads the Counseling Team in school-wide initiatives, professional development centered in principles of play-based therapy; Oversees the counseling services provided to Elm’s at-risk population; Collaborates with the Director of Student Supports in the compliance of all mandated counseling services. Qualifications Minimum of 5 years teaching experience in elementary school, preferably experienced in literacy and elementary school; Minimum of 2 years experience developing curriculum, preferably related to interdisciplinary studies; Minimum of 3 years experience leading as a school leader; Master’s Degree in Education (highly preferred); Demonstrated understanding of instructional practice, including delivery of instruction, assessment and data analysis of student performance; Experience coaching and evaluating teachers; Demonstrated ability to provide effective professional development; Alignment to Elm’s mission, core beliefs, and educational philosophy.
