Major Responsibilities
Proficiency in rodent handling; dosing techniques including oral gavage, IV, IP, SC, RO, and IM; interim, survival, and terminal blood collections (e.g., submandibular, tail vein, saphenous vein, RO, cardiac puncture); as well as perfusion, anesthesia, necropsy and tissue collection
Perform tests such as grip strength, and/or other functional tests based on research needs.
Collect and analyze data from these tests to support ongoing studies
Experience with tissue processing for histology, cryosectioning, H/E staining and immunostaining
Comply with study protocols, vivarium policies and IACUC guidelines.
Maintain accurate records for animal health reports, cage cards, etc.
Accurately record data and maintain detailed lab notebooks or electronic data capture systems.
Maintain the highest standards of animal welfare.
Position Requirements and Experience
BA with 1-3+ years of relevant experience in a laboratory animal facility
Must be able to work weekends
Hands-on experience in handling, dosing, necropsy, and tissue harvest in mice
Prior experience with behavioral tests and functional tests in rodents is highly valued
Experience in RNA extraction from mouse tissues is a plus
Prior experience in genotyping, qPCR would be beneficial
Must have a general understanding of animal welfare regulations and of the importance of ethical use of animals in research
Strong attention to detail and ability to work independently with minimal guidance
