Full-time opportunity Germantown, MD (Hybrid) SMART IT People has a full-time opportunity for a Sr. Systems Engineer, Backup & Recovery for our client located in Germantown, MD. Must be able to work onsite in a hybrid role and be eligible to obtain and maintain a DoD clearance. No visa sponsorship is available. Required Skills 5+ years of industry experience with data protection technologies and/or Disaster Recovery software: Veeam Backup & Recovery, Commvault, Carbonite, Zerto, Avamar, etc. 5+ years of experience in storage, network, and/or cloud-based technologies. Good understanding of virtualization technologies: VMware ESX(i), Microsoft Hyper-V. Deep understanding of RTO and RPO and how to overlay technology & services to meet customer requirements. Familiarity with access control models and network security. Basic understanding of IPv4 & IPv6, routing, switching, gateways, subnets. Experience with protocols such as NFS, CIFS, Fibre Channel, and iSCSI. Experience with monitoring tools and SaaS applications. Experience in data lifecycle management with IT audit requirements. Certifications in Backup and/or Recovery technologies (e.g., VMCE, VMCA, ZCP). Advanced engineering tasks with Linux OS (RedHat, CentOS, Ubuntu, SUSE). Excellent oral and written communication skills. Ability to prioritize and manage multiple projects simultaneously. Experience leading discussions and advising sales on services, solutions, and design. Ability to operate in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment with tight deadlines. Desired skills: Automation and scripting experience (e.g., Ansible, PowerShell, Python). 3+ years in a Managed Services Provider environment. - Responsible for developing and implementing new Disaster Recovery and Backup infrastructure architecture, critical initiatives, and core systems. - Must have a comprehensive understanding of IT infrastructure and the ability to execute solutions meeting organizational and customer needs. - Act as an escalation point within the engineering team, providing subject matter expertise on core BaaS and/or DRaaS technologies supporting service offerings. - Focus on delivering high-quality customer service with professionalism and enthusiasm. - Communicate clearly and timely with customers regarding their issues or concerns. - Develop and maintain processes and documentation to ensure secure and available backup & recovery platforms. - Complete installations and projects on schedule. - Document infrastructure accurately, reflecting as-built information. - Provide clear communication to sales or project managers about tasks and deadlines. - Participate in team on-call rotations and customer pre-test planning. - Coordinate with internal teams for event preparations and disaster recovery exercises. - Work pre-scheduled shifts for customer testing. - Guide customers on best practices and product updates to maximize value. - Manage customer POCs to technical closure. - Collaborate with sales and product teams to secure new partners.
