Position Overview Trinity Health Of New England is seeking a Cytotechnologist for our Laboratory Services Department at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Waterbury, CT. The role involves microscopic examination of gynecologic and non-gynecologic specimens, cytology specimen preparation, and Fine Needle Aspirations, adhering to all regulatory guidelines and departmental procedures.
Responsibilities
Screens and results Pap tests, referring appropriate cases for pathologist review.
Ensures proper accessioning and labeling of samples.
Performs procedures such as FNA, ultrasound-guided, EUS, CT, and radiology-guided procedures.
Processes paperwork, maintains documentation, and follows regulatory guidelines (CAP, CLIA).
Participates in annual competency testing.
Troubleshoots cytology instruments and operates laboratory equipment.
Monitors quality control programs, including rescreening of Pap smears.
Adheres to safety, quality, and accreditation standards.
Maintains current knowledge in cytology and ensures compliance with regulations.
Maintains a clean and organized workspace.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Position Hours Per Diem, with a minimum of two 8-hour shifts per month, including weekends and holidays as required. On-site training involves an 8-hour day shift (8-4, M-F).
Minimum Requirements
Bachelor’s Degree
Preferred 5 years of experience as a Cytotechnologist
ASCP Certification as a Cytotechnologist
Experience in screening and specimen preparation, including ThinPrep
