Board of Directors About the Foundation The Tahoe-Truckee Excellence in Education Foundation is a nonprofit dedicated to enhancing education for students and educators in the Tahoe-Truckee Unified School District (TTUSD). Through classroom grants, district-wide programs, educator awards, and scholarships, the foundation has made a lasting impact on public schools. The Excellence in Education Foundation is a well-run, fiscally responsible organization with smooth operations and a strong foundation of successful fundraising initiatives. This said, Excellence in Education is poised for its next phase of growth. We seek a dynamic leader who will expand our reach, uncover new funding opportunities, and strengthen engagement with TTUSD families and the broader Truckee-Tahoe community. Position Summary The Executive Director will spearhead the foundation’s strategic growth, leading fundraising, marketing, and community engagement efforts to maximize impact. This role requires an inspired approach to donor development, branding, and partnership cultivation. The Executive Director will implement innovative marketing strategies, optimize existing fundraising initiatives, and drive advocacy for Excellence in Education. Additionally, they will ensure smooth operations, oversee grant distribution, and collaborate with the Board of Directors, TTUSD leadership, and key stakeholders to sustain and enhance the foundation’s mission. Key Responsibilities: Strategic Leadership
Collaborate with the Board of Directors to define and implement the foundation’s vision, mission, and goals. Develop and execute long-term and annual plans to expand the foundation’s impact. Serve as a thought leader, partner and advocate for educational equity and innovation in the region.
Fundraising and Development
Design and implement a comprehensive fundraising strategy, including major gifts, grants, events, and corporate partnerships. Cultivate relationships with individual donors, businesses, and philanthropic organizations to secure funding. Initiate grant-writing efforts and develop compelling funding proposals and donor reports. Work with the board and volunteers to plan signature fundraisers, campaigns, and other initiatives.
Community Engagement
Act as the foundation’s spokesperson, building visibility and support within the Tahoe-Truckee community and beyond. Collaborate with local organizations, educators, and community leaders to identify educational needs and develop innovative programs. Represent the foundation at events, networking opportunities, and public forums.
Operational and Financial Management
Oversee daily operations of the foundation, ensuring compliance with nonprofit regulations and best practices. Manage budgets, financial planning, and reporting in collaboration with the board treasurer. Supervise volunteers, fostering a collaborative and mission-driven work culture. Ensure timely execution of classroom grant programs, scholarships, and district-wide initiatives.
Board Relations
Partner with the Board of Directors to ensure effective governance and strategic direction. Provide regular updates on the foundation’s performance, fundraising progress, and initiatives. Support board recruitment, orientation, and engagement activities.
Qualifications: Required Skills and Experience Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field; advanced degree preferred. Significant leadership experience, preferably in nonprofit management, education. Proven success in fundraising, donor cultivation, and grant writing. Strong financial acumen, with experience managing budgets and financial reporting. Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, including public speaking. Demonstrated ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders. Passion for education and a commitment to the mission of the Excellence in Education Foundation. Preferred Skills and Traits Knowledge of the Tahoe-Truckee community and TTUSD educational landscape. Experience with event planning and volunteer management. Strategic thinker with the ability to balance long-term vision with day-to-day operations. Collaborative and approachable leadership style, with a commitment to fostering an inclusive environment. Creativity and adaptability to navigate challenges and drive innovation. Compensation and Benefits: Salary range $100K-135K, commensurate with experience. Benefits package, including health insurance, retirement contributions, and PTO.
