James Moore & Co., P.L., offers ACS, Audit, or Tax Internship opportunities, where you can gain valuable experience and apply the accounting principles you have learned in class. Students will get exposure to current software used in the field of public accounting and the personalized experience and benefits of interning for a regional accounting firm. James Moore internships are ideal for all students, as we offer flexible scheduling options to work around your academic obligations.
We require a commitment of 20 hours per week through the duration of the internship, but additional hours can be accommodated if requested and approved.
Internship Schedule:
- Spring Audit and Accounting and Controllership (ACS) Internships run from mid-January through mid-April.
- Spring Tax Internships run from mid-January through the end of March.
- Summer Internships run from mid-May through early August.
- Fall Internships run from mid-August until the week before Thanksgiving.

What you will do in an Accounting Controllership Services (ACS) Internship:
- Apply appropriate outsourced accounting knowledge on workpapers and assignments to ensure accurate and reliable data for clients' needs.
- Utilize accounting software to perform routine client data entry, tasks, and documentation.
- Execute day-to-day accounting functions, including accounts payable/receivables, payroll processing, bank reconciliations, and financial reporting.
- Review journal entries, reconciliations, and other accounting transactions prepared by the ACS team.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory accounting and research topics to increase fundamental knowledge.
What you will do in an Audit Internship:
- Perform audit procedures in client financial statements.
- Learn how to audit cash, Accounts Receivable, inventories, property and equipment, Accounts Payable, accrued expenses, debt, and general income statements.
- Propose adjusting journal entries when needed.
- Learn how to appropriately apply generally accepted accounting principles by reviewing accounting transactions.
What you will do in a Tax Internship:
- Preparation of individual income tax returns.
- Preparation of business tax returns, including partnership and corporations.
- Assist experienced staff with large tax engagements.
- Prepare adjusting journal entries and other bookkeeping functions.
- Interact with other teams and/or departments.
What you'll bring to the table:
- Pursuing a Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or a related field with equivalent coursework. Junior class level preferred.
- Completion of Tax I/Audit 1 or its equivalent (prior to start of internship) preferred.
- Ability to thrive and adapt in a fast-paced environment.
- Good verbal and written communication skills.
- Good attention to detail and problem-solving skills.
- An aptitude for learning and understanding various technical software.
