Teen Program Coordinator
POSITION SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Teen Program Director, the Teen Program Coordinator will play a pivotal role in designing, implementing, and overseeing a diverse range of programs catered specifically to teenagers. The focus areas include Youth in Government, Afterschool and Summer Camp, and various Teen Initiatives. The ideal candidate will have a passion for youth development, strong organizational skills, and the ability to engage and inspire teenagers to participate in meaningful activities.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Youth in Government:
•Develop and implement a Youth in Government program that educates teenagers about civic engagement, government processes, and leadership skills.
•Coordinate participation in mock government events, legislative sessions, and other related activities.
•Foster an environment that encourages critical thinking, public speaking, and teamwork among teens.
Afterschool and Summer Camp:
•Plan and execute engaging afterschool programs that provide a safe and supportive space for teens.
•Collaborate with staff to design and coordinate exciting and enriching summer camp activities.
•Ensure programs align with educational standards and promote personal and social development.
Teen Initiatives:
•Identify and implement teen-focused initiatives that address their unique needs and interests.
•Establish partnerships with local organizations to enhance the variety of initiatives offered.
•Empower teens to take on leadership roles within the YMCA and their community.
Program Administration:
•Maintain accurate program records, attendance, and participant information.
•Evaluate program effectiveness through surveys, feedback, and other assessment tools.
•Prepare reports for management and stakeholders to showcase program impact.
Staff Management:
•Assist in recruitment, training, and supervising program staff, providing guidance and support to ensure a positive and nurturing atmosphere.
•Assist in creating and managing staff schedules within budget goal and policy and procedures.
•Foster a culture of teamwork, professionalism, and dedication among program staff.
Community Engagement:
•Actively engage with parents, schools, and community partners to promote program participation.
•Represent the YMCA at community events to raise awareness and support for teen programs.
•Provide staff support to all YMCA special events and the annual fund-raising campaign
Budget Management:
•Assist in the development and management of program budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and responsible use of resources.
•Meet or exceed Budget and Annual Campaign goal.
Qualifications
JOB REQUIREMENTS
To be successful, you must meet some education, training and experience requirements and you must be able to demonstrate some critical knowledge, skills, and physical abilities.
EDUCATION, TRAINING AND EXPERIENCE
•AA/AS degree or equivalent in related field required; BS degree preferred.
•1-3 years' experience in formal childcare curriculum and programming, Middle to High School age experience.
•1-3 years of supervisory experience preferred.
•Child Care certification a plus.
•Microsoft Office proficiency required.
•CPR/AED and First Aid certifications within the first 90 days.
WORKING CONDITIONS
•May be required to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. in various forms.
•May be required to sit, stand or maintain physical activity for extended periods of time.
•Must exhibit patience and understanding.
•Must be able to receive and follow detailed instructions.
•Must be alert at all times, keeping safety in mind. Must possess acceptable hearing and visual capabilities in order to monitor environment and children's well-being.
•May be required to sit or stand for extended periods of time while demonstrating manual dexterity in order to accurately work on the phone, computer keyboard, and other equipment.
•Must possess auditory, verbal and visual capabilities in order to adequately communicate via phone and in person.
•Must be able to work nights and weekends.
•Must be able to drive 14-passenger vehicle to transport children from school or on field trips.
•Must be capable of working under pressure in an educational environment.
•May be required to work outdoors for extended periods of time.
•May be exposed to extreme outdoor weather conditions and temperatures.
