Position Overview/Summary: Manage business development within an assigned territory by partnering with existing agents and appointing new ones to acquire and retain profitable accounts. Collaborate with management to develop and execute a territory strategy that addresses product, pricing, and distribution needs, aiming to exceed goals in a competitive marketplace. Leverage personal relationships to foster business outcomes. Meet with agency principals and staff to deepen partnerships and increase engagement with Hanover.
Responsibilities/Essential Functions:
Drive sales results within the territory by conducting business development planning with agents.
Achieve market share within agencies, maximizing quote/win ratios.
Build trusted advisor relationships to improve partners’ business performance.
Implement and monitor agency account plans, adjusting strategies as needed.
Address underperformance by developing corrective actions.
Recommend terminating unprofitable agencies.
Leverage Hanover’s value proposition to secure stable business blocks.
Maximize book roll conversions and negotiate book consolidations.
Meet financial objectives: increase policies sold, improve retention, and enhance engagement.
Gather and share competitive intelligence.
Prospect and meet agency appointment targets.
Provide training to agents and CSRs as needed.
Adhere to sales best practices.
Required Skills and Experience:
At least 3 years of sales or relevant industry experience.
Knowledge of current market conditions and territory specifics.
Proven relationship-building skills.
Fluency with insurance policies, rules, and regulations.
Excellent communication and negotiation skills.
Ability to analyze reports and metrics for strategic decisions.
Creativity and problem-solving capabilities.
Underwriting and marketing knowledge is a plus.
Strong decision-making and persistence.
Effective at selling Hanover’s value proposition and cultivating partnerships.
Strong interpersonal skills, including coaching and motivating.
Ability to work independently and organize effectively.
Understanding of agency economics and operations.
Ability to leverage data and relationships for mutual benefit.
Physical Demands and Work Environment:
Proficient with office equipment and computer use.
Ability to sit, stand, and operate a vehicle for travel (up to 70%).
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment.
