Reporting to the President & CEO of UMMS, the Chief Strategy Officer (CSO) will provide strategic leadership and creative direction to an integrated team of strategy, business development, external affairs, and marketing and communications. They will be responsible for the formulation, management, and development of UMMS's strategic plan.
The CSO will provide direct leadership in the system integration and alignment efforts across the healthcare enterprise, enhancing the success and effectiveness of UMMS's strategic planning. This leader will drive strategic excellence while supporting the organization to deliver on its transformative vision of "being a national leader in the transformation of health care" and positioning UMMS to provide world-leading academic medical care in the community, in the home, and through digital platforms. The CSO will identify opportunities for accretive growth and partnerships that create differentiated, industry-leading centers of excellence within the competitive greater Maryland market.
Initially, the CSO will ensure current initiatives underway will be completed successfully, while engaging in the activities that will define new initiatives to achieve the agreed upon goals and areas of emphasis in UMMS' strategic framework, such as becoming a High Reliability Organization (HRO). Therefore, the CSO plays a key role in UMMS HRO journey.
Specifically, the CSO will lead in the development and implementation of system-wide initiatives in the areas of business development, external affairs, and marketing and communications to grow and UMMS as an integrated academic health system, consistent with its strategic priorities and goals. Key priorities for the CSO include advancing UMMS's mission and vision through innovative business models and programs, partnerships, new market entry and other initiatives to enhance the growth across the health system and enhance access to care - spanning tertiary and quaternary care, primary care, ambulatory services, community-based acute care, behavioral health, population health management, ancillary services and the academic mission.
As a key member of the executive leadership team, the CSO will work closely with the CEO and other senior leaders, to ensure alignment and operational success of business growth opportunities, ensure the effective use of strategies to raise and communicate the brand profile and nature strong relationships with state and federal regulators.
EXPERIENCE AND PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
The ideal candidate for the Chief Strategy Officer role will possess the following experience, leadership, and background competencies:
Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in strategy and business development within the healthcare industry. Proven track record of successfully leading strategic initiatives across large, complex healthcare organizations with multiple service lines and hospital facilities. Demonstrated success in business development, mergers and acquisitions, and partnership building preferred. Experience influencing and working effectively across large organizations, engaging key internal and external stakeholders. Strong understanding of healthcare systems, regulatory environments, and market dynamics. EDUCATION QUALIFICATIONS
MHA, MBA or advanced degree in related field is required. COMPENSATION
$600,000 to $700,000 plus Executive Benefits
