The Greening Youth Foundation (GYF) is proud to partner with the National Park Service (NPS) through the InternXL Internship Program, offering impactful internship experiences for students and recent graduates from Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs). This initiative is part of our ongoing mission to build pathways for young Black professionals in public service and conservation careers. We are currently recruiting
14 InternXL interns
to serve at culturally and historically significant NPS sites, where they will support interpretation, education, descendant and community engagement, and preservation work.
Position Description: The interns will support visitor services and public engagement by helping to highlight the history of Black on-board rail car workers for the Pullman Company, including the Pullman Porters. Interns will assist in the development of an interpretive story map and other public-facing materials that help communicate this important and often overlooked story. Their work will contribute to the park's efforts in celebrating the 100th Anniversary of the BSCP in 2025. Interns will also help launch the first informal interpretive activities at the new Chicago unit. They will play a key role in greeting and engaging visitors during the busy summer season.
The internship will provide the student with marketable skills that will further their professional career in educational programming, public interpretation, community engagement, public historic land management, and communications. This opportunity will also include the development of integrated information technology tools to enhance the visitor experience. Additionally, the position will support EO14189 "Celebrating America's 250th Birthday." This interpretive project will support the celebration of the Pullman Porters' contributions to the economic advancement of the United States of America.
Eligibility Requirements: • Must be a senior or recent graduate of an HBCU (within the past 2 years) • Must have a valid driver's license • Must be able to commit to a 12-week, full-time internship
This paid opportunity provides hands-on experience, professional development, and a chance to make a lasting impact on how history is preserved and shared through our national parks.
