The vCIO (Virtual Chief Information Officer) acts as a strategic technology advisor for both existing clients and prospective clients. This person will align IT strategy with business goals, while also assessing technical environments during the sales process to ensure a solid foundation for partnership. The vCIO builds and maintains strong client relationships through planning, communication, and guidance - and plays a key role in both client retention and new business acquisition. Position Summary
The vCIO (Virtual Chief Information Officer) acts as a strategic technology advisor for both existing clients and prospective clients. This person will align IT strategy with business goals, while also assessing technical environments during the sales process to ensure a solid foundation for partnership. The vCIO builds and maintains strong client relationships through planning, communication, and guidance - and plays a key role in both client retention and new business acquisition.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Account Management (Existing Clients):
Serve as the primary strategic advisor for assigned clients. Conduct Quarterly Business Reviews (QBRs) to discuss performance, roadmap updates, and future planning. Develop and maintain comprehensive IT roadmaps aligned with clients' business objectives. Identify risks, inefficiencies, or gaps in client environments and make proactive recommendations. Collaborate with technical and support teams to ensure alignment between strategy and service delivery. Educate clients on cybersecurity, compliance, infrastructure planning, and emerging technology trends. Assist in budgeting and forecasting for IT projects, lifecycle planning, and upgrades. Assist with ordering equipment and managing receipt of hardware for clients, ensuring timely and accurate delivery in alignment with project needs.
Sales Support (New Business Development)
Partner with the New Business Development team to conduct onsite Network Discoveries at prospective client locations. Evaluate the client's current IT infrastructure, network topology, and security posture. Identify potential gaps, vulnerabilities, or misalignments and provide recommendations for improvement. Help determine fit between the prospect's environment and MIS Solutions' standards. Deliver findings in a clear, professional manner to assist the sales team with proposal development.
Qualifications
5+ years of experience in IT strategy, consulting, or technical leadership. Proven track record of aligning technology with business goals for SMBs. Familiarity with managed services environments and layered security frameworks. Hands-on knowledge of networking, server infrastructure, Microsoft 365, cloud services, and cybersecurity solutions. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills Comfortable presenting to C-suite leaders. Ability to assess new environments quickly and translate findings into actionable recommendations. Strong organizational and time-management abilities. Experience in onsite technical assessments or pre-sales engineering a plus.
