WIC is the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants and Children. WIC provides nutrition education, breastfeeding information and support, nutritious foods and referrals to health and other social services at no charge to Georgia families that qualify. District 2 Public Health serves 13 counties in northeast Georgia, including Banks, Dawson, Forsyth, Franklin, Habersham, Hall, Hart, Lumpkin, Rabun, Stephens, Towns, Union, and White counties. Under direct supervision, provides a broad range of paraprofessional social services to patients/clients/consumers and their families. Conducts patient/client/consumer intakes, participates in treatment team planning, and performs crisis intervention.
Essential Functions (include but are not limited to): Offers limited para-professional breastfeeding support to clients and their families. Assists in leading breastfeeding classes for WIC participants. Provides individualized, basic breastfeeding education and counseling both within and outside WIC clinics. Maintains caseload and accurately documents participant interactions in accordance with Every Mother and District 2 Public Health WIC guidelines. Issues and tracks breast pumps following WIC and Every Mother Support Policy. Participates in monthly staff meetings and breastfeeding conferences/workshops as appropriate Supports efforts to promote and protect the health and well-being of residents across Northeast Georgia. Manages a caseload of WIC mothers, serving approximately 203 participants per hour worked. Provides basic breastfeeding education and support, covering topics such as breastfeeding benefits and common challenges. Assists with prenatal and breastfeeding classes, as well as support groups within the WIC clinic. Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or GED AND One year of experience in a social services related position OR
Two years at an accredited college or university with at least 15 credit hours in a social services related field.
Preferred Qualifications:
Must be a current or former WIC participant Must have breastfed at least one child for a minimum of six months Previous Peer Counseling Experience Bilingual: fluent in writing and speaking Spanish Certified Lactation Counselor (CLC) or Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) Passionate about breastfeeding and committed to supporting new mothers. Ability to work up to 28 hours per week. Reliable transportation. Basic computer skills.
