General Description
Children’s Health Andrews Institute (CHAI) is recruiting for a Human Movement Scientist (sports science-focus) to join its Sports Science and Research Laboratory. The Human Movement Scientist will be responsible for delivering actionable data, interpreting results, and providing/developing programming recommendations through applied analytics. Our sports science model supports athlete development at all levels of youth to professional athletes - providing objective data, tailored insights, and collaborative strategies across our different departments including our partnership with EXOS and external organizations.
CHAI is a comprehensive orthopaedic and sports medicine facility consisting of surgical and primary care musculoskeletal care, concussion, mental health, rehabilitation, sports science, performance, and research. As a fully integrated medical center, our services provide a continuum of care from initial evaluation to return to performance.
The SSRL contributes to the overall mission of Children’s Health - “Make Life Better for Children through three pillars of effort - research (ACL, concussion, female youth athlete, patellar instability, upper extremity), sports science (youth to professional athletes), and return to performance (ACL, patellar instability, upper extremity).
Specific Responsibilities
- Collaborate on projects and initiatives to provide sport science services within the program.
- Ensure that the appropriate safety protocols and techniques are followed during testing and monitoring sessions.
- Implement performance monitoring and testing programs and provide timely reporting as required.
- Reinforce collection, methods, and consistency (i.e., validity and reliability) of physical performance data across the performance staff.
- Provide key cross-functional communication and collaboration to empower sport science initiatives within the team and/or external collaborations.
- Provide, maintain, and monitor performance analyses and reports (i.e., load monitoring and physiological/subjective load response).
- Manage and administer safe, legal, and ethical practices for the dissemination of athlete, team, and related institutional performance data.
- Engage in organizational problem-solving efforts.
- Collaborate with performance staff on the development and implementation of individual and group training interventions/strategies.
- Development and testing of new sport science assessments, training protocols, and technology.
- Assist the team with deliverable performance services and special projects.
- Contribute to the delivery of educational workshops, seminars, webinars, etc.
- Contribute to the identification of critical qualities and variables of interest for further study.
- Collaboration on sport science research projects with strength and conditioning, athletic performance, sports medicine, nutrition, mental performance, and/or third-party vendors/consultants.
- Consistent and proper maintenance of performance technology.
- Assist with sport science resource development.
- Contribute to the collection of sport science literature to support department initiatives.
- Mentor and supervise interns, trainees, and junior support staff.
Candidate Qualifications
The candidate will have a MS in a related field to sport science, strength and conditioning, or related field and a history of the following preferred:
- Experience with sport technology and use with athletic populations (VALD, 1080, motion capture, etc).
- Experience conducting longitudinal athlete testing.
- Experience evaluating athlete data and developing athlete reports.
- Experience collaborating and/or creating athlete programming.
- Experience with database management.
- Experience with Excel, SPSS, R, Power BI, SQL, MATLAB, and/or other statistical software.
- Experience with applied sport science and/or clinical research.
How You’ll Be Successful:
WORK EXPERIENCE
- At least three years of professional experience in Sports Science, Return to Performance, Sports Analytics, Strength and Conditioning, or related.
- At least one year of professional experience with data wrangling, analysis, and visualization.
EDUCATION
- Graduate degree in Sports Science, Strength and Conditioning, or related field required.
