O.C.E.A.N. Inc. offers a rental assistance program for individuals/families who meet the criteria for Emergency Rental/Deposit Assistance to avoid Homelessness as outlined below:
Individual/family is a resident of Atlantic and Cape May Counties
Individual/family is not residing in low-income or subsidized housing (incl Section 8).
Individual/family meets income eligibility requirements -125% of Federal Poverty Level
Individual/family have resided in the current rental unit for at least one year
Individual/family rent and expenses are current-demonstrated by (need to define-letter from landlord, rental receipts, current utility bills).
Individual/family is not at risk for eviction
Individual/family is willing to participate in Housing Counseling Assistance through OCEAN Inc. one a month.
Individual/Family must provide proof of income.
Work First New Jersey
General Assistance (WorkFirst NJ) Benefits include: food, clothing, shelter and household furnishings; temporary rental assistance or back rent or mortgage payments; utility payments (e.g. heat, water, electric); transportation to search for housing; and moving expenses. Eligible persons include the homeless or those at immediate risk of becoming homeless, and those who have experienced a substantial loss of housing, food, clothing or household furnishings due to fire, flood or similar disaster. WFNJ clients may receive Emergency Assistance in certain situations.
In order to receive TANF benefits in New Jersey, residents must file an application with their local county welfare office (See below for locations).

Meals on Wheels Program: This Program packages and delivers 160 meals a day, M-F to handicapped and disabled Senior Citizens living in Atlantic City. To be eligible, you must be 60 or older, disabled and not able to care for yourself. For More Info Call (609) 347-5827.
The National Hunger Clearinghouse collects and distributes information about programs that address the immediate and long-term needs of struggling families and individuals. The National Hunger Hotline (1-866-3 HUNGRY or 1-866-348-6479), refers people in need of emergency food assistance to food pantries, government programs, and model grassroots organizations that work to improve access to healthy, nutritious food.
Beginning January 1, 2013 County Photo Identification Cards are available to senior county residents, 60 and over, only at the Mays Landing County Clerk's office. Included on this card is your photo, name, address, date of birth, height, weight, eye and hair color, and signature.
Legal Services of New Jersey (LSNJ), an independent, non-profit organization, coordinates the statewide Legal Services system. LSNJ strives to ensure equal access to justice under law to all people of New Jersey, providing free legal assistance to low-income people in civil matters.
New Jersey residents 14 years of age and older, may apply for a non-driver photo identification. The non-driver ID is issued solely for the purpose of providing identification and is not a license to drive.

Jewish Family Service of Atlantic County, Jail Reentry Services Program Jewish Family Service (JFS) is contracted by Atlantic County to provide individualized discharge planning and reentry services to the sentenced inmate population at the ACJF. Most of this population experiences a high rate of opiate and alcohol abuse, co-occurring mental health disorders and trauma (historical, childhood, and current). This discharge planning and reentry program utilizes the APIC Model (Assess, Plan, Identify, Coordinate) developed through the SAMSHA funded GAINS Center for People with Co-occurring Disorders in the Justice System. JFS partners with John Brooks Recovery Center and several community based organization to provide reentry services. JFS has a Memorandum of Understanding with Atlantic County that agrees to a Mentoring Program that will connect trained Reentry Coaches (mentors) and Participants (mentees) currently incarcerated at the ACJF. The program relies on volunteer coaches primarily from local churches. The Second Baptist Church in Atlantic City will lead the initiative to recruit and train mentors.
