Summary
Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation d/b/a Brooklyn Bridge Park ("BBP") is a not-for-profit corporation, a public authority, and the entity charged with developing, maintaining, and operating the public park known as Brooklyn Bridge Park, an 85-acre, 1.3-mile public space that stretches along the Brooklyn waterfront.
BBP's mission is provide an exceptional public space that connects people, nature, and the waterfront through inclusive, innovative, and sustainable management and design, and its vision is to be a world-class park for all, recognized as a leader in sustainable financial and ecological practices contributing to a healthier and more livable city.
Reporting to the Custodial Supervisor, the seasonal custodian is responsible for maintaining the cleanliness of Brooklyn Bridge Park. With our established organizational mission, vision, and values, the custodian provides cleaning services with the goal of enhancing the experience of our visitors. Work involves cleaning restrooms, removing trash, maintaining floors, snow and ice removal, and cleaning all general spaces. This is a primarily outdoor position in all weather conditions. BBP provides protective weather gear including uniforms, jackets, and sun/rain protection for staff.
*This position will run from May 1 through September 1, 2025*
Primary Responsibilities:
- Act in a general custodial capacity throughout the park including sweeping, moping, emptying trash/recycling cans, picking up any debris, maintaining the cleanliness of restrooms and concrete surfaces.
- Removal of graffiti and report any damaged or broken park features to a supervisor.
- Remove leaves, weeds and debris from roadways, pathways, promenades, and sidewalks.
- Report any rule enforcement needs to the Park Enforcement Police (PEP) and park supervision.
- Provide support with the set up and breakdown of public programs and events including folding tables, chairs, barricades, or other objects as assigned.
- Provide positive customer service to park visitors including answering questions and conveying park information.
- Comfortable using cellphones and radios to communicate with supervisors and stay up to speed on department tasks and updates.
- Perform other duties as required in the scope of the job and as designated by Operations Management.
Skills and Experiences:
- Previous experience in custodial maintenance and/or park-setting preferred.
- Experience using custodial equipment such as leaf blowers, string trimmers, buffer machines etc.
- Ability to work shifting schedules, overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.
- Hardworking, energetic, self-motivated, and dedicated to the details.
- Comfortable working independently or with a team and can balance multiple projects and tasks.
- Flexible and solutions oriented.
- Strong customer service skills.
- Physically able to stand and walk most of the day.
- Strong communication skills and basic computer and cellphone knowledge;
- Ability to lift more than 40 pounds on a regular basis.
Qualifications:
- NYC residency required
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
- Ability to work overtime, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Brooklyn Bridge Park, one of the largest and most significant public projects to be built in New York City in a generation, has transformed a once dilapidated industrial waterfront into a vibrant and thriving 85-acre civic landscape. The Brooklyn Bridge Park Corporation (BBP) develops, capitally improves, maintains, and fully operates the Park as a 501 (c) not-for-profit, controlled by the City of New York. BBP is responsible for the day-to-day operation of the Park, including horticulture, maintenance, capital planning and construction, event permitting, and concession oversight. The Park is designed by Brooklyn-based landscape architecture firm Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Inc.
