Customs and Border Protection Officer Role

Key responsibilities include:
- Enforcing customs, immigration, and agriculture laws and regulations.
- Facilitating trade and travel while ensuring compliance.
- Conducting inspections and interviews in a law enforcement capacity.
- Determining individual admissibility for entry into the United States.
- Preventing the illegal entry of individuals and prohibited goods and contraband.
Duty Locations – Incentives Available
You will be asked to provide your preference for one of several mission-critical locations listed below. The selected location may offer additional recruitment incentives.
Benefits
An annual base salary for newly appointed CBPOs ranges from $61,111 to $124,443 per year. Additionally, officers are eligible for overtime pay and participate in the Thrift Savings Plan.

Qualifications
To qualify for this role, candidates must meet one of the following requirements: experience, education, or a combination of both.
Experience Requirements:
- A minimum of one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level, including detaining suspects, enforcing laws, and conducting interviews.
Education Substitution:
Candidates may also qualify through a master's degree or higher, or an LL.B. or J.D. from an accredited institution.
Other Requirements:
- Citizenship: Must be a U.S. citizen.
- Residency: Primary U.S. residency for at least three of the last five years.
- Age Restriction: Must be referred before the 40th birthday (some exceptions apply).
- Veterans' Preference: Eligible veterans may qualify for excepted service appointment.
Formal Training:
New recruits undergo two-week orientation and 101-day training at FLETC in Glynco, GA. Spanish training may be required for certain locations.
