Description
The Solid Waste & Recycling Division is primarily responsible for the disposal of Municipal Solid Waste generated in the County as required by North Carolina State Law and in accordance with all applicable local regulations. Gaston County currently uses an integrated solid waste management plan consisting of sanitary landfilling, compost/mulch, recycling, and related waste reduction programs.
Examples of Duties
The duties listed below are not all of the duties that may be assigned but are those that are considered as essential for an employee to perform.
- Performs mechanical repairs on various types of highway use vehicles and heavy equipment using manuals and parts books for reference on proper repair and safety procedures
- Performs preventative maintenance such as oil changes and lubrication in order to adhere to the Preventative Maintenance Program
- Orders parts and supplies as needed.
- Cleans and maintains equipment repair shop; services shop equipment and tools in order to ensure a clean, safe, and productive facility.
- Performs any duty required to keep equipment running.
Minimum Qualifications
Requires a high school diploma or a GED and at least two years of related equipment maintenance and repair experience.
ASE Certification preferred.
- Requires the ability to stand, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach, push, pull, and to lift up to 50 pounds.
- Exposure to unfavorable health or safety conditions is constantly present.
- Daily Involvement with work that involves a chance of major injury or loss of life and prolonged exposure to hazardous working conditions or severe weather conditions.
