Part-time Overview of Positions These positions collaborate with a variety of staff and volunteers to create experiences that promote and inspire active participation in worship. Together they implement the worship and music ministry of Pilgrim Lutheran Church. Director of Worship and Music:
12.5 hours a week for 12 months of the year Director of Choirs:
7.5 hours a week for 10 months of the year Organist and Pianist:
10 hours a week for 12 months of the year Director of Children’s Choir:
approx. 3 hours a week for 9 months of the year We welcome applicants with gifts to support some or all of these positions. Pilgrim is open to splitting into multiple positions or considering teams of musicians applying together if individual applicants are not able to fulfill all of the activities.

to apply. DIRECTOR OF WORSHIP AND MUSIC
12.5 hours a week for 12 months of the year - funds available for this role, Director of Choirs, and Organist and Pianist combined up to $51,000 Plan and support the worship life of the congregation in collaboration with the Lead Pastor, musicians, and Office Coordinator. Meet regularly with the Lead Pastor to co-create regular and occasional worship, with words, activities, and music around central messages and themes of the scripture, season, and experience. Plan and develop, with support and collaboration of the Office Coordinator, bulletins and digital media that support the worship life of the congregation. Cultivate and promote lay leaders through recruitment, training, rehearsals, and regular follow-up to develop a deep pool of diverse leaders from the congregation who contribute to the worship life. Enlist and partner with external musicians and musical groups in support of the worship experience of the congregation. Provide creative direction and support for Pilgrim’s contemplative evening worship services. This could include the development of a new service. Supervise and direct the Audio-Visual Techs to provide technical support of the worship offerings of the congregation. Provide administrative oversight: Oversee and plan the annual budget of music and worship ministry Attend weekly staff meetings, periodic program planning meetings, and enlist the support of staff as needed. Coordinate with the Business Manager for payments and purchasing requirements. With the Office Coordinator, maintain files and documentation which support music and worship ministry, and organize, and maintain the written and digital music resources of the congregation, ensuring that all licensing and legal requirements are met for their use. Minimum Qualifications/Experience: Bachelor's degree in music or music education Five years' experience in ecclesiastical music and worship leadership desired Literacy in the use of musical notation software desired Additional theological or religious training desired Acceptable criminal and motor vehicle background checks as determined by Pilgrim Lutheran Church DIRECTOR OF CHOIRS
7.5 hours a week for 10 months of the year - funds available for this role, Director of Worship and Music, and Organist and Pianist combined up to $51,000 Plan and lead rehearsals of the Chancel Choir, Y’All Come Choir (scheduled on certain Sundays before worship and learn an easier piece of music at a single rehearsal), and occasional ensembles to prepare them as they support worship experiences on Sunday mornings and evenings and on other occasions. Select music scores which complement the readings, scriptural themes, and occasions of the worship offerings of the congregation Rehearse with choirs, leading them in their role in supporting the congregation in their experience of worship. Encourage the growth of choir members through occasional devotions that interpret musical offerings and through their own activities outside of regular rehearsals. Promote the ministry of the church’s choirs through outreach to the church and community and encouraging choir members as promoters of the ministry. Serve as cantor as needed, modeling this role for choir members, and incorporate choral scholars and lay leaders of the congregation as cantors Explore opportunities for Pilgrim choirs to collaborate with other congregations and music organizations to engage in ministry through music-making beyond Pilgrim. Explore opportunities to develop special worship services in the course of the church year that focus music-making (e.g. preparing larger choral works or works with more instrumental accompaniment). Recruit and supervise Choral Scholars (paid section leaders in Chancel Choir) as they enhance the worship life of the congregation. 10 hours a week for 12 months of the year - funds available for this role, Director of Worship and Music, and Director of Choirs combined up to $51,000 Provide musical leadership and accompaniment of regular and occasional services of the congregation, supporting the congregation’s singing and its overall experience of worship. Select and rehearse music to be played as preludes and postludes which complement the overall themes of the worship services of the congregation. Select and rehearse suitable hymns to be incorporated into worship services of the congregation. Serve as accompanist selecting, rehearsing, and playing music in support of soloists and instrumentalists. Develop occasional musical arrangements in support of the liturgical life of the congregation. Arrange for substitute organists and pianists to serve the congregation as needed. Provide for the overall care and tending of the keyboard instruments of the congregation. approx. 3 hours a week for 9 months of the year - $28/hr Plan and lead rehearsals of the Children’s Choir to prepare them as they support worship experiences on Sunday mornings and other occasions. Choose, prepare, and conduct music for the Junior Choir (1st-8th graders), participating in worship services once every 3-4 weeks. Rehearsals are held on Wednesday evenings for 45 minutes (5:45-6:30 pm). If attendance increases, it is possible to separate into two choirs by age and have an additional rehearsal of 30 minutes (5:10-5:40 pm). Coordinate with Pilgrim staff and parent volunteers in occasionally leading music for elementary age children on Sunday mornings, as work hours allow. Prepare children for the Christmas Pageant and similar experiences, in collaboration with the Director of Faith Formation (5-10 additional paid work hours will be offered). Meetings are very occasional: monthly check-in meetings with Worship and Music Director; longer planning meetings with staff 2-3 times annually. Minimum Qualifications/Experience: Major or minor in music and/or previous experience working with young children desired Piano facility is helpful, but an accompanist is provided for worship services and final rehearsals Gifts Needed for All Positions: POSITIVE PRESENCE

Pilgrim is a vibrant congregation of about 500 members, located in the Macalester-Groveland neighborhood of St. Paul, between Macalester College, the University of St. Thomas, and St Catherine University.
