The VP of Finance is primarily responsible for integrating long-term strategic planning with the detailed work required for federal grant compliance. The Vice President of Finance has overall financial management responsibility for NNEDV and works closely with the CEO, VPs, Director of Human Resources/Equity and Inclusion, Development Team, and programmatic teams on budget development, expense tracking, grant applications, and grants management. The Vice President of Finance supervises the Finance and Administrative Manager, the Budget Manager, and financial consultants. The position is an exempt, full-time, remote position reporting to NNEDV’s President and CEO. Periodic travel to the Washington, D.C. area, or other locations, is required for occasional all staff and other meetings.ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Manage financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, grant compliance, and related matters for NNEDV.Lead the annual financial statement and single audit and any federal OIG audits or site visits.Oversee monthly financial processes and reports in collaboration with NNEDV’s outsourced CPA.Optimize cost allocations across various funding sources and complex rules.Provide timely and accurate budget information and guidance to budget managers.Liaise with the Audit Committee and Finance Committee of the Board of Directors and present status reports as needed.Ensure the accuracy and integrity of all financial, project-based, and grant accounting, including cash flow and forecasting.Assess and upgrade internal controls and finance policies and practices to ensure compliance with accounting and grant standards.Manage integrated Finance/HRIS software systems in coordination with the Director of HR/Equity and Inclusion.Lead the annual budgeting process and support project teams with budget management.Prepare RFPs for banking, accounting, audit, and investment services.Advance NNEDV’s commitment to racial equity and inclusion on all levels, internally and externally as part of its core mission, ensuring that work is coordinated, effective, survivor-centered, and rooted in racial justice.SUPERVISION:Finance TeamConsultants and interns as neededEDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in Finance, Accounting Business Administration, or related field.7-10 years of strategic financial planning and analysis experience for a nonprofit organization.Experience in Federal, State, and Local Grant budgeting and compliance.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:Executive level leadership experience with the ability to assess and upgrade internal controls to ensure compliance.Experience assigning and managing cost allocations across a variety of complex funding sources with complex rules to achieve optimal financial outcomes.Experience developing and delivering financial reports to advise leadership on financial planning, budgeting, cash flow, investment priorities, grant compliance, and related matters.Experience leading and coordinating single audits and federal OIG audits.Proficiency in Sage Intacct (or similar accounting software).Intermediate to advanced MS Excel skills.Experience providing oversight and support of an outsourced CPA on monthly financial processes and reports is a plus.Ability to think through problems systematically while integrating information from multiple sources to form a comprehensive plan and strategy up from many parts.A high degree of personal initiative and proven interpersonal and team skills.Ability to serve as a supportive and confidential advisor to leadership.Strong communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to communicate effectively with a variety of audiences, including being able to present financial information in a way that is clear and understandable to non-accounting staff.Flexibility, adaptability, and the ability to work quickly and accurately under pressure.TRAVEL:Travel will be required to D.C. for all-staff meetings and team meetings.
