The Senior Data Analyst independently develops data solutions to support business goals. Develops clear and well-structured analytical plans and analyzes large data sets. Oversees and conducts the conversion of data into insights that will lead to informed business decisions. Develops a mastery of all available databases to effectively serve as an organizational subject matter expert on data sourcing. Ensures data integrity and compliance with data security standards. Supports the manager in guiding and directing the activities of data analysts, where applicable, to ensure the efficient execution of their duties.

Qualifications

Minimum EducationBachelor's Degree in mathematics, statistics, economics, finance, computer science or a related field. Relevant experience beyond the minimum required work experience may substitute the educational requirement on a 1-to-1 ratio (i.e., one year of relevant work experience equals one year of required education). (Required)

Required Skills/KnowledgeDemonstrates a deep interest in research and data analysis, drawing actionable insights from raw data and information to help further the business’s cause. Skilled in statistical and econometric modeling, performing quantitative analysis, and technological data mining and analysis techniques. Possesses a clear understanding of key IT business systems, reporting and analytics, general ledger management, and data warehousing. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Must demonstrate a willingness to be accountable for the business’s performance. Exceptional attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks and meet tight deadlines, creative and innovative problem-solving skills, self-motivated and proactive, and demonstrate calmness during times of uncertainty and stress. Must possess a natural ability to get along with people and establish strong and meaningful relationships with others. Proficiency with standard statistical packages (e.g. SAS, R, etc.) and writing SQL code using multiple tools such as SQL Server Management Studio or GUI programs that assist with developing queries and reports preferred.

Functional Accountabilities

Data Management to Support Business Goals

Demonstrates a curiosity and drive for identifying the most efficient and accurate reporting solutions.

Thinks strategically to connect data flows into big picture business outcomes.

Works closely with management to prioritize business needs and stay up to date with the goals of the organization as they evolve.

Works with the business’s departmental heads, management, and key stakeholders, in developing detailed business requirements, conducting gap analyses, creating functional designs, and guiding the business’s leadership through analytical data processing when needed.

Establishes KPIs to identify predictive trends that assist with business decisions and validate the effectiveness of solutions over time.

Data Reporting and Modeling

Gathers and extracts data from the database using a variety of common commercially available tools (such as MS Excel, MS SQL and Tableau) to assist clients in identifying potential solutions to business needs.

Collaborates with a team of analysts and other associates to collect and process information. Creates graphs and charts for presentations to internal and external stakeholders.

Works under the Data Manager to develop clear and well-structured analytical plans, and to identify opportunities for improving operational processes and outcomes.

Analyzes large data sets to find usable information and to forecast and interpret potential trends. Enhances data sets to support performance improvement opportunities.

Builds statistical models, diagnoses, validates, and improves the performance of these models over time, in addition to creating efficient and reusable SQL code meant for the improvement, manipulation, and analysis of data.

Manage and Maintain Databases

Develops a mastery of all available databases to effectively serve as an organizational subject matter expert on data sourcing.

Maintains various existing reporting databases including those that are more complex.

Data Integrity and Compliance

Build and operationalize processes that ensure timely data-loading and maintain accuracy and relevance of data.

Documents the methodologies used to develop reporting outputs, including demonstrating the flow of data to stakeholders for review purposes.

Develops and maintains quality control standards and data reconciliation techniques for internal and external reporting.

Performs routine data audits to ensure compliance with deliverable reporting requirements.

Creates, troubleshoots, and enhances the business’ data loadings.

Completes data validation for applicable databases.

Works with Data Manager in ensuring constant compliance with data security standards and to effect change where merited.

Training and Technical Support

Creates and maintains documentation relating to data management including training guides, report specifications, and data dictionaries.

Maintains the flow of accurate data sets to various tools that allow stakeholder access to information in a self-service manner and trains senior leaders and management on the effective use of such tools.

Attends meetings where reporting and analytics expertise is needed and represents the department in both internal and external settings.

May control and grant access to database and/or standard reports.
