POSITION TITLE:
EXEMPT Director of Community Services
OBJECTIVE:
Responsible for overall Administration of the Community Services Department including implementation of BBNA’s pass-through funding system for Bristol Bay tribes, provision of technical assistance to tribes, and providing public safety in village communities through the Village Public Safety Officer program. The position oversees a region-wide team of staff including VPSOs, tribal administrators and tribal clerks with shared supervisory arrangements between BBNA and the Tribal Councils. The Director will plan, apply for, and oversee grant programs to enhance tribal governments, tribal justice systems, and related tribal activities.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Candidates must demonstrate their ability to accomplish the Essential Job Results stated below.
Job knowledge/experience required:
Formal education and/or experience in rural development, public administration, accounting and audit processes, community planning and development, or related fields including progressive work experience at a managerial level.
Familiarity/experience on a policy level with BIA program operations, including budgetary and programmatic accountability.
Awareness of issues in Indian law as applicable in Alaska today. A well-grounded understanding of current economics, issues related to public safety, and Tribal self-governance in rural Alaska.
Management, budget development, and supervisory experience are a must.
Computer skills including Word processing, Quickbooks, and database program skills. Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Understanding of the provisions of PL-93-638 as amended.
Familiarity with Bristol Bay Area, people, and cultures. Ability to establish and promote effective working relationships and sustain open communications with employees, supervisors, officials and the public. Demonstrated commitment to strengthening tribal government systems.
