The ideal candidate for this position will use their work experience and organizational skills to conduct legal research, draft memos, pleadings, motions, and orders, as well as prepare for hearings and trials.To excel in this position you must be able to adapt to a fast-paced environment, organize large volumes of data, meet billable hour requirements (120 billable hours per month) and deadlines, and be motivated to achieve Firm goals. Our ideal candidate will not only be organized with their own tasks and workflow but be able to manage up to their attorney and legal team.A Paralegal must have a certificate or degree from an accredited paralegal program or 1-2 years working in a comparable family law firm along with experience in the areas of legal research and drafting.Salary is commensurate with skill and experience. Manage your time to ensure that billable hour targets (120 per month) are met or exceededCommunicate with clients, experts, and other parties to provide updates and gather information; answer basic questions about the status of the caseMonitor case progress, deadlines, and important time frames/milestonesDraft documents, indexes, and chronologies; prepare marital settlement agreements; draft pleadings, motions, and court documents; fill out legal forms; write reports, etc.Help attorneys prepare cases for mediations/hearings/trialsManage discovery: prepare and organize discovery and responses to discovery demandsResearch laws and judicial decisions about current as well as past casesAssist attorneys in the courtroom as neededEnter billable and non-billable time in the case management system contemporaneouslyDraft subpoenas and coordinate with process serversAssist lawyers in preparing legal documentation, pleadings, and correspondence including correspondence such as interrogatories, subpoenas, deposition notices, complaints, pretrial orders, legal briefs, and affidavitsOrganize our case filing systems to ensure all documents are properly sorted and easy to locate, and other administrative duties as neededGather information about legal issues from the client in interviewsHelp lawyers prepare for trial by preparing and organizing exhibits, assisting with client meetings, filing motions, conducting research on legal articles, and organizing and coordinating witnessesQualifications

A Paralegal will have completed a course of study offered by a college or university, especially for Paralegals, and will possess a certification as a trained paralegal.A Paralegal should have experience in a law firm. Experience as a legal secretary or legal assistant is especially pertinent, and candidates with this background will be given preference.Additionally, you must possess the following skills:Ability to multitaskExcellent communication skills both orally and in writingPeople Skills/Customer Service—A Legal Assistant should have excellent people skills with the confidence to address initial client complaints and soothe angry clientsExcellent Organizational SkillsTime ManagementAbility to work in a team with Legal Assistants and AttorneysCompletion of a nationally-accredited paralegal program strongly preferred3+ years of legal service experience under an attorney or lawyer in a law firm settingExcellent organizational skills, and time-management skillsMust have completed an ABA-approved paralegal certificate program such as an Associate’s degree or proprietary school program in paralegal studies, Bachelor’s degree desiredStrong oral and written communication skillsCompensation
