Learning & Organizational Development (L&OD) works to support learning by empowering the employees to reach their full potential both personally and professionally. L&OD strives to build a learning organization through instructor-led courses, certificate programs, and a comprehensive online learning system.The Instructional Designer reports to the Director of Learning and Organizational Development. This position provides leadership in research-based instructional design, creating engaging learning materials, developing assessment techniques, and designing learning technology solutions. The Instructional Designer collaborates with Subject Matter Experts (SMEs), project coordinators, and other instructional professionals to design and develop courses and learning tools.Duties include but are not limited to:

Designs and develops effective courses including web content, interactive exercises, assessments, and online communication mechanisms.Provides leadership and project management for assigned course production projects.Provides instructional design expertise for online and blended/hybrid course development.Partners with UHR colleagues and content experts to develop innovative solutions.Builds positive cross-unit and cross-campus working relationships.Consults with SMEs and UHR leadership on needs assessment and course evaluation.Guides SMEs in the analysis, design, development, and evaluation of effective courses.Applies research-based principles and standards for quality course design.Gathers and reports on evidence of the impact of instructional innovations.Other Responsibilities:

Researches trends in instructional design and remote learning.Contributes to outreach initiatives through consultations and workshops.Other duties as assigned.Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience:

Master’s degree or a Bachelor’s degree with at least 2 years of related work experience.Other Required Qualifications:Experience designing and producing online course materials.Experience managing projects and prioritizing work.Experience with online course management systems (e.g., Moodle, Canvas).Experience with instructional technologies and e-learning authoring software.Excellent interpersonal and business communication skills.Ability to establish collegial relationships with faculty and staff.Knowledge of emerging technologies in teaching and learning.Proficiency in multimedia hardware and software.Demonstrated success in technical writing.High level of independence and initiative.Preferred Qualifications:Knowledge of agile project management concepts in Higher Education.Application of gamification learning principles.Experience with the Quality Matters (QM) Higher Education Rubric.Awareness of usability and accessibility considerations.Experience in a higher education setting or with SMEs in a commercial setting.Experience with blended/hybrid learning design.Experience using enterprise learning technologies at NC State.Demonstrated success in developing instructional multimedia.Required License(s) or Certification(s):
