I. JOB OVERVIEW
Job Description Summary:
The Department of Prevention and Community Health in the Milken Institute School of Public Health at George Washington University is recruiting a part-time Dietitian, GooDMomS2 to play a key role in research related to health equity to work with the Gestational Diabetes Management Program (The GooDMomS2 Project). The GooDMomS2 Project is a 2-year research project for a weight loss program, based on the Diabetes Prevention Program, to help women who are 6 weeks to 1-yr postpartum lose weight and control their glucose levels after a recent pregnancy complicated by gestational diabetes mellitus. Participants will enroll and participate in a Diabetes Prevention Program (DPP)-based lifestyle intervention vs. an enhanced lifestyle intervention vs. metformin therapy. The dietitian will report directly to Dr. Wanda K. Nicholson, M.D., M.P.H., M.B.A., and the Research Program Manager.
The primary role of the Dietitian is to implement a weight and glucose management program for new mothers in the first year after delivery. The person in this position will be responsible for implementing the program which includes group video-conferencing sessions, one-to-one sessions by video or phone, and performing research by conducting literature reviews and helping to write manuscripts.
Responsibilities include:
- Complete training on the lifestyle intervention from the Diabetes Prevention Program.
- Provide group video-conferencing sessions on healthy eating and healthy lifestyle behaviors.
- Provide one-on-one nutritional counseling.
- Teach meal planning.
- Provide email and/or text support to research participants.
- Complete session assessments to confirm all components of the intervention have been completed in the standard fashion.
- Develop educational materials.
Performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 3 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master's degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 1 year of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in clinical nutrition, food and nutrition, or related area, granted a regionally accredited college or university.
- Master's degree in nutrition or exercise related fields or Master's degree in Public Health.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Excellent interpersonal skills.
- Previous experience in nutrition counseling, preferably with emphasis on weight loss/weight maintenance in adults.
- Experience working with overweight/obese populations, and those with or at risk for diabetes.
Hiring Range
