Medical Technologist .WORK SCHEDULEDay ShiftFull-TimeWHAT WE OFFERVacation time and sick time off that accrues monthly, including 12 paid holidays.Fully subsidized public transit pass (U-PASS) that covers multiple forms of public transportation in the region.Excellent healthcare, dental, disability, and retirement plan options.Lots of free fitness, healthy eating, finance, and stress reduction classes offered through the Whole U.State Employee Tuition Exemption Program covering up to 6 credits of qualifying coursework per quarter at the University of Washington or other participating colleges or universities.Eligibility for the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program as a UW employee.REQUIRED POSITION QUALIFICATIONSEducation BackgroundBaccalaureate degree in medical technology; orBaccalaureate degree in science plus completion of an accredited or approved school of medical technology; orAt the discretion of the Lab Director, alternative routes that combine education, training and experience may be considered, if the combination satisfies requirements as “testing personnel” under State of Washington and Federal regulations.Licensure, Registration, CertificationCurrent technologist–level certification with ASCP or equivalent; orSatisfies requirements as “testing personnel” under State of Washington and Federal regulations.MA – Medical Assistant certification is required for employees performing phlebotomy.PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIESThe Medical Technologist performs, in one or more areas of the Laboratory, routine and complex medical laboratory tests for diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of disease, as ordered by physician. The Medical Technologist exercises independent judgment, makes decisions, troubleshoots complex problems, develops new tests, and provides leadership and direction to technicians and lab assistants.JOB DUTIES:Performs routine and complex technical procedures on biological specimens.Performs tests accurately, promptly, and efficiently. Follows lab policies and procedures. Maintains cost-effective levels of supplies and reagents.Uses computer systems effectively. Enters results of the analyses into the computer for storage and reporting.Operates, calibrates, cleans, and maintains equipment used in testing.Follows safety procedures.Recognizes and, if so assigned, corrects errors. Documents corrective action.Works independently and uses independent judgment, under general direction by the supervisor.Demonstrates knowledge of expected values, disease states, physiological conditions, and interdependency of tests.
