Job SummaryWithin the Division of Cardiology, the Research Finance Analyst will manage a high volume of complex research contracts, grants, and subcontracts, utilizing advanced knowledge to ensure compliance with institutional and sponsor policies. This role involves independently reviewing financial and administrative aspects of research proposals and awards, and guiding others in the process. The incumbent will assess and manage intricate transactions that require thorough evaluation and may have delegated signature authority, enabling them to review and approve transactions for less experienced staff. Additionally, they may serve as a subject matter expert in specific areas such as federal and state contracts, subcontracts, or information systems.In this central role, the incumbent will manage highly complex proposals and awards, including those involving task budgets, option years, multiple investigators, and multiple sub-awards. As the primary liaison between Sponsors and UCSF entities—including Contracts and Grants, Research Management Services, Principal Investigators, Clinical Research Coordinators, Senior Clinical Research Coordinators, Clinical Research Supervisors and Managers, Legal, and Procurement—the incumbent will serve as the principal point of contact for all post-award matters on a diverse and advanced portfolio.The incumbent will operate with a high degree of autonomy, collaborating with the division's coordinators to resolve issues related to recruitment, informed consent review, contract interpretation, compliance, and visit milestone audits. They will conduct monthly one-on-one meetings with clinical research coordinators to assist with effort allocation and coordination, train staff on financial terms and implications of projects, and ensure full revenue capture for each project. Furthermore, they will support new coordinators by acting as a liaison with other departments and ensuring they fully utilize available resources. UCSF Benefits .Department DescriptionThe Department of Medicine is the largest department in the UCSF School of Medicine. To advance health, the Department of Medicine develops and supports innovators in patient-centered care, scientific discovery, medical education and public policy across 5 main sites (Mission Bay, Parnassus, ZSFG, VAMC, and Mt. Zion) and 39 divisions.The Division of Cardiology is one of the largest clinical, research and training divisions of the Department of Medicine (DOM) at UCSF. Within the Division are sub-specialty sections for: General Cardiology; Adult Congenital Heart Disease; Advanced Heart Failure, Transplant, and Pulmonary Hypertension; Cardiac Electrophysiology; Cardio-Oncology and Immunology; Critical Care Cardiology; Echocardiography and Cardiac Imaging; Interventional Cardiology; and Preventive Cardiology.The Division runs several clinical practices in multiple sites, conducts basic and clinical research, and educates medical students, residents, clinical fellows and postdoctoral scholars through ACGME as well as non-ACGME training programs.There are currently over 90 faculty in the division, over half of whom have research portfolios, and there are almost 40 clinical research coordinators. There are over 90 clinical trials and over 200 awards in total managed.Required QualificationsBachelor's degree in related area and 5 years of directly related experience / or equivalent experience / trainingAdvanced knowledge of program administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environmentAdvanced knowledge of applicable compliance requirements related to use of human or animal subjects in research, financial conflict of interest, biosafety, etc.Ability to manage high volume and complex transactionsAbility to perform highly complex financial analysis and customized reportingAdvanced competence in the use of spreadsheet and database software in financial analysis, fiscal management and financial reportsAbility to maintain independent judgment; strong organization and communication skills; and a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areasKnowledge of medical billing procedures, rules, reconciliation, coding and rate developmentKnowledge of Medicare clinical trial regulations and restrictionsKnowledge of and ability to interpret and apply sponsor, institutional and departmental policies.
