The LightHouse is currently in a period of growth, increasing our capacity to serve more low-vision and blind clients.*Blind/visually impaired strongly encouraged to apply.*Please note the terms and conditions of this position may be subject to change, once a Union Collective Bargaining Agreement is in place.OVERVIEWThe LightHouse for the Blind and Visually Impaired is looking for a service-oriented Grant Writer to join the LightHouse team, in the heart of downtown San Francisco. With over 100+ employees and an annual budget of $23 M, the LightHouse has the resources and imagination to help change the lives of the blind and low-vision population of the greater bay area and beyond. One of San Francisco's oldest and best-known philanthropies, we operate primarily from a state-of-the-art headquarters on Market Street. Here we coordinate students, volunteers, teachers, families, accessible tech and a caring staff, to design and build new ways in which to help people with visual impairments.The Grant Writer will work in a primarily remote capacity that includes occasional work in the San Francisco office or other California locations as needed as part of an evolving Development Department, supporting aspects of development for the entire organization.QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor's degree in English, Communications, History, or a related field is preferred.3-5+ years' experience grant writingProven professional writing experience, ideally 1+ years of grants or corporate requests; portfolio samples or equivalent required.Excellent communication skills, both written and verbalProfessional and friendly demeanorDriven, dependable, strong organizational skills with the ability to work independently and as a collaborative team memberHighly organized, high level of attention to detailFamiliarity with or interest in the nonprofit community and the LightHouse's missionProficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Word, PowerPoint and Excel.Proficiency in Salesforce or proven CRM learning capacity and willingness to develop essential skills immediately.Experience working within corporate giving is a plus.JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:Support in revenue projection, shared prospect research responsibility with Grants and Contract Manager and leadership, including identifying and qualifying new institutional donors; development of institutional giving template content to ensure communication fidelity; direct support for Communications related to all grants items.Primary responsibility for new grant prospect development, produce renewal grants over $50,000, and new grants between $25,000 - $99,000, annual templates, support in development impact report narratives, project development and budget scoping in collaboration with leadership under the supervision of the Grants and Contract Manager.Develop twice annual grant reports for institutional donors, supporting the Grants and Contracts Manager and Program leadership in timely data collection.Ensure grant reports are delivered in a timely fashion.Update demographics internally for staff, board, and volunteers as possible.
