Human Resources Director (HRD)

will provide generalist management, oversight, and support to key HR functions such as compensation, employee relations, compliance, and/or international Human Resources. The incumbent will manage select HR staff and systems and will translate strategy into operational plans in key areas.Global Refuge, formerly known as Lutheran Immigration and Refugee Service (LIRS), is a nonprofit serving newcomers seeking safety, support, and a share in the American dream. Since 1939, we have welcomed those seeking refuge, upholding a legacy of compassion and grace for people in crisis. We walk alongside individuals, families, and children as they begin their new lives in the United States through our work in refugee resettlement, welcome and respite services for asylum seekers, economic empowerment and employment, and family unification for unaccompanied children. Our comprehensive services leverage our extensive organizational expertise as well as government, community, and faith partnerships.DUTIESTranslates strategy into objectives. Establishes and oversees the execution of short-term team goals and objectives in support of functional long-term strategies.Monitors and reports regularly on metrics, relevant statistics, and activity reports to help continuously monitor and improve HR practices.Researches and develops policies, procedures, and processes to ensure smooth operations that are supportive of Global Refuge staff and applicants.Ensures compliance with Global Refuge policies and procedures and with federal, state, local, and international laws.Manages and provides appropriate oversight and support to HR staff members.Conducts investigations of complex employee relations issues escalating issues for appropriate attention and resolution.Coordinates and conducts staff training related to policies, processes, and systems.Represents HR at leadership meetings.Other duties as assigned.QUALIFICATIONSUndergraduate degree in Human Resources, Psychology, or related field and 10-15 years of progressive human resources experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.5 or more years of experience leading an HR department or unit or managing an HR team.Extensive knowledge of Human Resources including experience with complex organizations operating across multiple states.Strong generalist knowledge of employee relations, talent acquisition, benefits, compensation, and expertise in at least one of the following areas preferred: compensation, international Human Resources, or federal government contracting.Proficiency in MS Office, particularly Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and HR systems including HRIS, performance management systems, LMS, and ATS.Attention to detail and follow-through required.Proven track record of achieving results through others.Working knowledge of federal and state employment laws.Excellent analytic, oral, and written communication skills, as well as the capacity to handle confidential information with discretion and sensitivity.A deep appreciation and understanding of how a diverse workforce contributes to the vitality and strength of an organization, and how HR can contribute to creating and sustaining a diverse workforce.Excellent interpersonal skills and demonstrated ability to interact professionally with culturally and linguistically diverse staff, clients, consultants, and applicants.Proven ability to assess priorities and manage a variety of complex activities simultaneously and professionally.SPHR SHRM SCP Certification strongly preferred.Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.Exceptional time management and quality control skills that ensure accurate and timely delivery of work products.Willingness and ability to travel overnight occasionally.Commitment to Global Refuge's core mission and values and an ability to model those values in relationships with colleagues and partners; commitment to empowering refugees and migrants.Global Refuge is an equal opportunity employer, and all qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, color, religion, age, sex, national origin, disability status, genetics, protected veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression, or any other characteristic protected by federal, state, or local laws.
