Organizational Relationships:
This position reports to the Deputy Chief of Staff for Policy and Legislative Affairs and is part of the Office of Legislative Affairs. This position supervises Deputy Legislative Directors and Legislative Advisors.
Expected Annual Travel:
Occasional in-state travel
Summary of Functions:
The Legislative Director represents the Governor and administration before the General Assembly and helps to develop and supports the Governor’s legislative agenda.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop the Governor’s annual legislative agenda, including execution and enactment of bills
Manage all bill signing recommendations, ceremonies, and veto recommendations
Advocate for and communicate the Administration’s goals and legislative priorities to the General Assembly
Draft legislative language and amendments
Advise on legislative strategy, process, and positions
Vet/screen/approve/deny department positions on pending legislation
Manage all cabinet and major board/commission confirmations
Track all legislation introduced during the legislative session and develop recommendations for action or amending
Provide project management, support (and defense when needed) for 18 department legislative liaisons
Minimum Qualifications, Substitutions, Conditions of Employment & Appeal RightsEducation/Experience:
7 years’ work related experience.
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field; applicable experience may be substituted for the degree requirement on a year for year basis.
10 years applicable experience.
