Overview: The Assistant Director of Student Life and Leadership contributes to the overall goals of the Student Life office by supporting students' intellectual, social, cultural, and recreational activities. The Assistant Director cultivates relationships with individual students and student groups, attends to student developmental issues through formal and informal means, and acts as a liaison between students and other campus departments. Serving in the role of Coordinator of Greek Life assists the Director of Student Life & Leadership in creating a vibrant learning centered Greek community that is physically and emotionally safe, secure, and supportive of the educational process, and is designed to hold individuals and groups responsible for their behavior. This is a student affairs generalist position with opportunities to engage in a vibrant campus activities office, international student life office, leadership education and Greek Life.

Job Duties:

Provide, along with other offices on campus, a range of programs, opportunities, trainings, etc. which meet the specific educational and social needs of Augustana students.

Assist the Director of Student Activities, Leadership, and Engagement in delivering signature events offered by the Office of Student Life.

In partnership with, and in the absence of the Director of Student Activities, Leadership, and Engagement provide leadership and management in the daily operations of the Office of Student Life.

Engage in the life of the college through committee assignments, strategic planning, and participation in campus-wide events.

Participate in the Student Policy Committee as a visiting member, upon request.

Communicate and connect students with community service partners including Royal Neighbors of America. Track student organization service hours and monitor their service fundraising budget.

Advise and coordinate activities associated with Greek Life to ensure a high-quality and diverse program of activities are available to support the Greek community. These events include but are not limited to formal recruitment, spring formals, organization fundraising initiatives, new member education, Greek Week, and Homecoming.

Mentor and support executive and general board members of the Greek Council providing on-going leadership and team development for the organization.

Develop and implement the Greek Life Education Series to ensure all fraternity and sorority members have access to personal and professional development learning initiatives.

Develop a strong network of resources throughout campus to support the needs of the students.

Supervise a team of student workers to assist with the goals of the office.

Maintain flexibility and is able to work well in a fast paced environment, including ability to work nights and weekends as necessary.

Requirements:

Skills & Experience:

Affinity for working in a small college, residential, liberal arts environment.

2+ years of demonstrated successful experience working with fraternities and sororities on a residential college campus including best practices and trends related to sorority and fraternity populations.

Understanding of student development philosophy, role and purpose of a college student activities program and ability to articulate in a higher-ed environment. Demonstrated experience in program development, implementation and assessment.

Strong administrative and professional skills including organization, budget management, student supervision, event planning, and follow up. Demonstrated personal skills including strong oral and written communication, attention to detail and ability to work independently.

Education: Bachelor's degree required, MA highly preferred in College Student Personnel or related field.

Work Environment: This job operates in a professional office environment. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.

Physical Demands: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. Must be able to lift 15 pounds on a frequent basis. Also required is the ability to listen, hear, speak, read, write, climb stairs, bend, stoop, and stand for intermittently long periods of time. Must possess finger and hand dexterity for using small tools and equipment. Must be able to use a computer to accomplish a variety of job tasks. This position has frequent evening and weekend responsibilities as well as very long days on occasion.

Travel: Little to no travel is expected for this position.
