Position Summary

As a member of the Division of Student Life and the Student Involvement team, the Assistant Director of Student Involvement assists in leading efforts that engage students in meaningful campus involvement and align their work to advance our strategic plans. This position supports student success by mentoring and coaching through the development of rich relationships. The assistant director works directly with student leaders and collaborates across the university to provide community and leadership development opportunities that enhance the student experience. Responsibilities include serving as an active member of the staff, maintaining professionalism, and completing various administrative tasks that support the daily operations of the department.

Additionally, this assistant director is responsible for working closely with student leaders to develop mentoring relationships. This position also collaborates with other Student Involvement Assistant Directors to create an environment that engages students in transformative co-curricular learning experiences and promotes positive growth and development. The assistant director enhances the student experience by fostering alignment between university values and the activities of student organizations and fraternities and sororities on campus. Specifically, this position provides direct advisement to the Panhellenic Council and serves as a chapter mentor to the Panhellenic sororities, as well as advising the Multicultural Greek Council (MGC) and mentoring MGC fraternities and sororities. This assistant director engages all fraternity and sorority members in campus-wide programs and develops activities welcoming to all students.

Minimum Required Education and Experience

Completed bachelor's degree and at least 2 years of post-bachelor's experience in higher education required.

Preferred Education and Experience

Master’s degree in higher education, college student personnel, counseling, or related field is preferred. Preference will be given to candidates with two to four years of related experience working with student organizations, student activities, sororities and fraternities, and/or leadership development, as well as experience advising students from various cultural and ethnic backgrounds.

Job Duties

Student Involvement Team

Serve as an active member of the Student Involvement staff, contribute to a relationship-rich environment that fosters student growth and success, and support broader department programs and events.

Assist with and attend selected high-risk contracted events and programs hosted within the department.

Monitor budgets and guide spending for program initiatives as needed.

Negotiate, review, and request contracts with agents/students to plan events.

Align assessment and reporting mechanisms with the improvement and strategic planning of the department, division, and university.

Develop and maintain supportive campus partnerships with colleagues and university departments.

Meet with the Associate Director of Student Involvement regularly and actively participate in team meetings.

Advising and Mentorship

Develop a relationship-rich culture by serving as a chapter mentor to the members and student leaders of the Panhellenic chapters and the Multicultural Greek Council chapters.

Advise and support the Panhellenic Council and the Multicultural Greek Council.

Develop and maintain relationships with fraternity and sorority community constituents.

Foster relationships with students that model care for the individual and promote a culture of respect.

Programming and Development

Lead the development of fraternity and sorority campus-wide events and programs.

Partner with the Kernodle Center for Civic Life to support service and philanthropy initiatives.

Coordinate the recognition of student organization leaders and advisors through planning the annual Dr. Leo M. Lambert Student Organization Awards Ceremony.

Promote and engage student organization involvement in campus-wide athletic events.

Model and promote inclusive excellence and the celebration of diverse identities.

Serve as primary contact and reviewer for Panhellenic and MGC council and chapter event requests.

Provide guidance/training to help ensure fraternity and sorority events follow established University policies.

Division of Student Life

Positively represent Student Involvement and Elon University in all communications.

Support departmental strategic planning and assessment.

Support university events and serve as a member of a Student Life Care and Response Team.

Other related duties as assigned by the Associate Director.
