Job Summary:

The Physics department teaches a range of undergraduate courses to a wide variety of majors, including Physics. These courses range from large General Physics courses, in which much of the instruction is done by Teaching Assistants (TAs), to smaller intermediate and advanced courses intended for physics majors. The teaching specialist will support the Department's instructional mission in the following ways:Fulfill TA responsibilities of TAs with excused absences.Facilitate communication regarding laboratory needs between Physics department instructional support staff and instructors and course coordinators in 100- and 200-level physics courses.Evaluate lab equipment and inventory in cooperation with the Instructional Laboratory Manager.Observe classrooms and give feedback.Serve as instructor of record in Physics courses as necessary.Responsibilities:Teaches the quiz, tutorial, discussion, or lab section(s) of a course or assists in the development of materials or programs under the direction of an academic staff or faculty member (40%).Facilitates classroom and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses including assessment of student performance (30%).Assists with the development of instructional design and curriculum relevant to a course of instruction under the direction of an academic staff or faculty member (30%).Serves as an initial point of contact for students as it relates to specific course or series content and expectations.Institutional Statement on Diversity:
