Position Summary:

The Assistant Technical Director is responsible for assisting the Technical Director to achieve high quality scenic construction, shop supervision, and installations of set, lights, sound, special effects, projections, and other technical needs. Specific duties and tasks will be decided based on the abilities of the assistant and the needs of the show. What follows is a generalized list of responsibilities.

Position Responsibilities:

Review working drawings with the technical director and verify that individual projects are ready to be started.

Assist the technical director in creating a build and load in schedule.

Assist with build and load in.

Attend tech and dress rehearsals as assigned, and assist in taking specific and detailed notes during the rehearsal.

Assist in supervising the strike of the set. Strike is complete once the technical director approves the space.

Organize and maintain a safe and clean shop space.

Assist with the transport, assembly, and strike of stage scenery for productions, camps, and events.

Before each work shift begins, coordinate with the technical director distribution of shop labor and job assignments. Oversee volunteers.

Create a positive and safe learning environment for students and volunteers to build skills and community as you teach volunteers safe building methods, set construction, painting, and fabricating.

Position Qualifications:

Minimum Required:

High School Diploma

Flexible schedule. Some nights and weekends required.

Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in technical theatre or related field.

2 years experience.

Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities:

Good problem solving and analytical skills including meticulous attention to detail and accuracy.

Excellent time management skills and ability to plan and multi-task, ability to work within multiple deadlines.

Experience with AutoCad/Vectorworks/Sketchup and in the Google suite of software programs.

Ability to read drawings/paperwork made by above software.

Experience with shop tools including hand tools, power tools, welders, and table saw.

Essential Physical Functions:

Ability to squat, lift up to 40 lbs, and stand for long periods of time. Pay:

$16.00 - $18.00 per hour

Expected hours:

6 – 30 per week
