Overview

National multidisciplinary design firm is seeking a talented Project Manager to join either their San Francisco or Sacramento office. In this role, you will be actively managing project teams and building long-term relationships with the company's growing higher education, civic, and cultural practice. This role requires excellent time management, communication, and technical skills as you work closely with Principals, Senior Designers, Project Architects, and other Project Managers developing design solutions in response to the company's clients' deadlines and needs.

The firm has 11 offices all around the world focusing on healthcare, arts and culture, community, corporate, education, and government projects. Recently, the firm won the prestigious American Architecture Award for Museums and Cultural Building, along with IIDA Healthcare Design Award.

Responsibilities

Collaborate with the Principal to evaluate the project requirements and help negotiate an acceptable owner-architect agreement including the fee and time schedule.

Demonstrate task-focused mastery of project scope, profitability, schedule, and budget. Complete projects on schedule, within budget, and with maximum client satisfaction.

Negotiate critical issues with top-level architects, engineers, and officials of other organizations and firms.

Utilize experience and technical knowledge to monitor the quality of the construction documents while keeping schedules and budgets in mind, providing coaching/communication as appropriate with team leaders and/or team members responsible for workflow/timelines.

Develop discipline cost and work-hour budgets for each project and monitor project costs and completion status against budget schedules/timelines.

Oversee all correspondence and pertinent documents, ensuring accuracy; sign or obtain signatures, and seek legal counsel as appropriate.

Coordinate review and evaluation of contractor bids and work with the Principal to submit award recommendations to the owner.

Provide day-to-day leadership in the absence of and as delegated by the Principal and/or Practice Group Leader, keeping lines of communication open with all office management leaders and assisting with preparation of client billings prior to submittal for signature.

Collaborate with the Principal as requested in the marketing of projects, including the development of proposals and possible participation in client interviews.

Set an example for team effort through the spirit of cooperation while directing, organizing, and mentoring junior staff.

To be successful, you will have demonstrated your skills by working on large-scale and multiple smaller-sized, challenging projects simultaneously. Exceptional interpersonal skills, including the ability to communicate clearly with team members and clients, are essential. You will leverage the technical skills of your teams to deliver projects on budget and on schedule.

QualificationsPreferred candidates will have:

Your registered architect license (preferably in California).

15+ years of professional experience honed on increasingly complex projects.

Experience with the State Fire Marshal and Division of the State Architect is important.

Familiarity with LEED accreditation and the Design/Build project delivery method is preferred.

Proficiency with Revit, SketchUp, and other industry-accepted software is desirable.

Expertise with Project Management software and Microsoft Office products is necessary.
