LocationThis position will report to the Denver Mountain Parks headquarters in Morrison, Colorado. This position will typically work Friday – Tuesday, 6:30 a.m.– 4:00 p.m. with an additional day off every other week consistent with a 9-hour work day. Occasional evenings and or/holidays for special events, snow removal, or emergencies. Schedules are subject to change based on seasonal needs.
What You’ll DoDenver Parks and Recreation is seeking a capable and experienced crew lead to oversee permanent and on-call staff for the Denver Mountain Parks Operations and Facility Management program. Established over a century ago in 1912, the Denver Mountain Parks consists of 14,000 acres of parks and open space across four counties outside of Denver’s municipal boundary. The Mountain Parks system boasts a wide array of parks, historic structures, bison herds, Red Rocks Amphitheatre, Buffalo Bill’s grave and museum, water resources, wildlife habitat, trails, and a variety of recreational activities ranging from the alpine environment of Mount Blue Sky to the plains ecosystem of Daniels Park.
This critical position is a key member of the Denver Mountain Parks team and will ensure that all parks and facilities are safe, clean, and welcoming; that work is carried out safely and effectively; and that management goals are supported and advanced. This position will oversee a team that may include maintenance technicians, utility workers, parks seasonal laborers, and occasional youth corps. Specific responsibilities include planning assigned projects, directing fieldwork, supervising staff, ensuring safety, interfacing with contractors, and providing recommendations to management. This position will oversee weekend operations.
Job Duties and ResponsibilitiesLeadership
Lead and supervise employees involved in the operation, maintenance, and/or repair of Denver Mountain Parks facilities and infrastructure
Plan, organize, schedule, assign, and evaluate the work of staff members
Review, develop, and modify work plans, methods, and procedures, determine work priorities, and develop work schedules to provide adequate staff coverage for a program that operates 7 days per week. Provide work instruction, assist employees with difficult and/or unusual assignments and encourage innovation
Resolve problems, mediate conflicts encountered during daily operations, determine appropriate solutions, and promote teamwork
Develop goals, document performance, provide performance feedback and formally evaluate the work of direct reports
Operations and Facility Management
Direct daily workload for direct reports and prioritize assignments
May be assigned to manage program areas such as fleet, fuel management, waste removal, utility locates, wells and taps, etc.
Supervise and participate in snow removal operations
Plan and execute maintenance of paved and unpaved roads and parking lots
Implement safety standards and develop procedures to ensure compliance with safety requirements
Evaluate new equipment, materials, and techniques used in the operation, construction, maintenance, and repair of Denver Mountain Parks facilities, infrastructure, and equipment
Learn and implement historic preservation best practices
Support bison management operations and maintenance of handling facilities
Ensure all work is carried out in a manner appropriate to a natural setting, taking into consideration viewsheds, vegetation management, forestry, and wildlife needs
Administration
In collaboration with the Denver Mountain Parks Manager, develop short and long-term workplans and project budgets, and work closely with administrative support staff to expend and track budgets according to city policy
Support annual facility assessments, document facility conditions, and develop workplans to address deficiencies
Prepare work records and reports
Monitor contracts to ensure compliance with requirements and verify that contractors have met contract goals
Obtain quotes and initiate purchase orders and requisitions for large purchases

Licensures/Certification(s): Requires a valid Driver's License at the time of application. Requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL "B") with appropriate endorsements within 6 months of hire. Licenses and certifications must be kept current as a condition of employment.
Equivalency: Additional appropriate education may be substituted for the minimum experience requirements
