This position will work no more than 39 hours per week. The pay range for this position is $18.29 - $27.44/hour and is eligible to enroll in the City and County of Denver’s 457b retirement plan. This position is not eligible for other additional benefits. On-call positions may have routine or variable work schedules.Location: This position will report to 945 South Huron Street in Denver, CO.What You’ll Do

Seasonal Volunteer Project Coordinators play an important role in maintaining Denver’s extensive system of urban parks that are essential to the community’s well-being. These individuals learn and practice a wide variety of general maintenance and landscaping skills. They also engage community members directly in the care of Denver’s parks, creating an opportunity to work with a wide variety of individuals and groups from diverse backgrounds. This provides them with a strong foundation of knowledge and experience to make upward moves within the Parks and Recreation Department.Additionally, to support the department’s wildly important goal to grow and expand the Partnerships and Volunteer & Stewardship programs, the Volunteer Project Coordinator is critically needed to coordinate and manage an increased number of partners, volunteers, and stewards across parks and recreation. The position will help address staffing shortages as the department prepares for the seasonal increase in volunteer projects.The position will support Mayor Johnston’s Vibrant Denver goal to engage neighborhoods citywide; and to support DPR’s wildly important goal focused on growing partnerships, volunteers, and stewardship to offset and mitigate the impacts on staff and service reductions resulting from budget savings.This position will primarily lead volunteer projects throughout Denver’s urban park system, reporting to the Volunteer Program Manager. Additional assigned tasks may include work in support of Park and Forestry operations outside of volunteer projects.Job Duties and Responsibilities

Lead and work with community volunteers on one-day projects and through the Park Stewardship Program, which includes the adopt-a-park, adopt-a-trail, and adopt-a-flowerbed programs.Work outdoors in parks using and maintaining various hand-powered tools and motorized equipment in a safe and efficient manner.Interact with, work, and learn alongside DPR staff park maintenance generalists and/or specialists such as Irrigation Technicians, Horticultural Workers, Park Horticulturists, Forestry Technicians, and other experts in unique green industry fields and skilled trades work.Lead volunteers and/or work alongside DPR staff in tasks including:Landscape maintenance including:Turf maintenance (e.g., laying sod, fertilizing, mowing, edging, raking)Ornamental/garden maintenance (planting, weeding, minor pruning)Tree planting and maintenance (esp. mulching)Infrastructure maintenance and repair such as fencing, asphalt, concrete, trails work, grade work/erosion controlSnow removal operations such as shoveling and de-icingVarious related duties as needed such as trash collection, vandalism repair/graffiti removalAbout You
