The Department of Pathology at the University of Virginia invites applications for an academically oriented clinical chemist to serve as Associate Medical Director of the Section of Clinical Chemistry. This is an open rank position; the successful candidate will qualify for an appointment at least at the rank of an Assistant Professor of Pathology. Responsibilities include the oversight of laboratory testing and quality, assay development and validation. The Section consists of automated chemistry, special chemistry, and immunology laboratories.The Clinical Chemistry team at the University of Virginia Health System is part of an integrated department of pathology with successful programs in anatomic and clinical pathology, and a vibrant educational program for medical students, residents, and fellows, including a COMACC-accredited clinical chemistry fellowship.The University of Virginia Health System has significant infrastructure and a collaborative atmosphere that will support the candidate's professional pursuits, including clinical care, research, education, quality improvement, simulation, and administration. The University of Virginia Health System is a tertiary referral center for the region, and is located in Charlottesville, Virginia, which boasts abundant recreational activities and easy access to the Blue Ridge Mountains, the eastern shore, and the nation's capital.Interested candidates must have a PhD, MD, or MD/PhD degree, and be board certified or eligible by the American Board of Clinical Chemistry or the American Board of Pathology, as applicable. Responsibilities will include clinical service (oversight over one or more of the clinical chemistry laboratories), teaching (primarily pathology residents and clinical chemistry fellows), and collaborative and/or independent research activities. Fellowship training in clinical chemistry is highly desirable.
