The Performance Improvement (PI) Specialist is a role supporting Quality, Safety, and Innovation of the Heart & Vascular Institute in conducting ongoing performance improvement activities. The primary functions include oversight of quality outcome measures, data analysis to provide clinical insights, and collaboration with key stakeholders to solve problems and develop best practice standards to ensure high quality care, and reliable safe design of processes and workflows. The PI Specialist is aligned with regulatory readiness (CMS, TJC, DPH) and payer performance programs (QHIP, Blue Distinction). PI Specialist is a subject matter expert in improvement methodology and high reliability concepts.Position Responsibilities:Leads Performance Improvement initiatives for the Heart & Vascular Institute and maintains an on-going comprehensive quality assessment and performance improvement plan.Utilizes internal and external data to identify issues and trends that have an impact on patient safety and quality of care.Synthesizes data with clinical knowledge and recommends strategies to improve clinical performance and enhance patient safety.Performs all activities for the purpose of monitoring quality of care in order to meet internal facility objectives, as well as external accreditation and regulatory requirements.Participates in and/or leads designated performance improvement teams as indicated and in accordance with the institute’s strategic priorities.Performs quality and safety monitoring activities necessary to support clinical and administrative staff with ongoing evaluation of processes and outcomes of care.Oversee and support M&M Conference activity to ensure standardization as outlined in the HVI Quality & Safety Playbook.Provide leadership and support to all Clinical Quality Councils (CQCs) to ensure compliance with guidelines outlined in each charter and HVI Quality & Safety Playbook.In collaboration with regional quality performance improvement colleagues, participates during external agency reviews e.g. Department of Public Health, Joint Commission.Requirements and Specifications:EducationMinimum: CT RN license, Bachelor's Degree or Masters in a related field if non-RN (MHA, MPH)Preferred: Master's Degree in Nursing, Health Management or related discipline requiredExperienceMinimum: 5 years of clinical experience, Experience with database/spreadsheetsPreferred: Experience with Quality Improvement tools and techniques, regulatory experienceLicensure, Certification, RegistrationCPHQ, CPPS or other quality certification preferredKnowledge, Skills and Ability Requirements:Strong written and verbal communication skillsLeadership skillsAttention to detail with critical thinkingAdaptable to changing prioritiesOrganizational, interpersonal and customer service skillsDemonstrated ability to function independently with managing multiple projects & timelinesKnowledge of quality improvement methods, tools and techniquesStrong computer skills: with microcomputer software for database management and graphics (MS Office, Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, process control charts)Knowledge of statistical control toolsAble to interact fluidly with staff at all levels within the organizationAble to manage a project(s) independently and efficientlyWe take
