Assistant Band Director

Reports to: Band Director and Principal

Job Summary: Assists the band director in providing musical and/or auxiliary instruction for students and prepares them for performances. Supervises students at performances and rehearsals and on trips.

Terms of Employment: Seasonal, stipend-based, at-will position

Duties, Skills, Abilities, and Responsibilities:

Assists in the instructional delivery of the band curriculum.

Instructs students on their instruments/dance, at their level, to ensure each student’s progress by providing as much individualization as possible.

Assists in preparing the band/auxiliary groups for appropriate public performances in keeping with the expectations of the director, school principal, and district administration.

Supervises students at all performances and rehearsals and on trips.

Required to have prompt, regular attendance in person.

Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Ability to communicate effectively.

Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse group.

Excellent problem-solving, planning, and organizational skills.

Ability to implement instructional strategies that connect the curriculum to the learners.

Ability to manage students individually and as a group.

Demonstrates expertise in knowledge and teaching of instrumental music/auxiliary group skills.

Must possess or be able to obtain a commercial driver's license with P and S endorsements and drive a school bus.

Qualifications:

High School Diploma required.

Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience working with youth.

Experience with music, dance, or related instruction.

Physical Requirements:

Must be able to occasionally lift/carry up to 20 pounds.

Must be able to occasionally push/pull up to 20 pounds.

Must be able to occasionally perform the following: stooping, fine manipulation, grasping, bending, handling, and reaching.
