Job Summary

The City of Fort Collins is seeking a Sr. Specialist, Sciences to join the Utilities Environmental Regulatory Affairs division. This is a full-time salaried position with an anticipated hiring salary range of $86,000 - $95,000 a year. The Sr. Specialist plans, develops, implements, and continually improves programs to support City policies, plans, goals, and regulation-based requirements. This position is primarily focused on stormwater quality and managing the Post Construction program of the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4) Permit, to achieve goals of environmental regulatory compliance and environmental stewardship for the City of Fort Collins. This is an excellent opportunity to safeguard the water quality within our community and contribute to our environmental health and protection. Work includes but is not limited to: Coordinating and conducting permanent stormwater control measure (SCM) operation and maintenance inspections, Education and outreach to SCM owners, Ensuring documentation and scheduling to meet permit requirements and City priorities, Responding to spills citywide as part of the MS4 team.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following duties and responsibilities are illustrative of the primary functions of this position and are not intended to be all inclusive.

Develops, implements, and administers programs to support City plans, goals, requirements and regulations. Coordinates across City departments and regulatory agencies as needed.

Leads and engages in efforts to attain goals that are beyond compliance and/or that are established by City Council priorities.

Researches industry and science trends, evaluates for integration into City operations and services, and communicates these trends/changes across City departments.

Organizes, coordinates and conducts research and planning efforts to a) support department operations and services, b) support continual process and performance improvement, continual program and services delivery and/or design improvement based on evolving trends, technology and the needs of the community.

Tracks and evaluates programs; reports to relevant local, state, and federal agencies/organizations.

Coordinates and/or conducts events, trainings, assessments, and other means to educate the public and City staff.

Responds to public inquiries; develops and implements engagement strategies and educational materials.

Participates in relevant networking, industry, or other related stakeholder workgroups or organizations.

Required Qualifications

MINIMUM

PREFERRED

College degree or equivalent work experience. Some positions may require functionally related certification or advanced degrees

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited four-year college or university in chemistry, biology, environmental science, natural resources, engineering, or related field; or equivalent work experience.

Experience Requirements

Three (3) to five (5) years related experience in the field, or equivalent combination of education and experience, with a preference in a municipality, utility, or other related government agency.
