We continue to serve the educational and economic development needs of the region and proudly boast more than 40,000 alumni.Job Description:The Assistant Director of Counseling, reporting to the Director of Counseling, will oversee grant-based programs, work directly with students and families with critical needs to provide streamlined access to counseling (both on and off campus) and community resources, and manage a client case load as needed by the department. The Assistant Director will serve as a Counselor while also assisting the Director in coordinating the development of internal and external partnerships, providing guidance and mentorship to all staff working within Counseling Services and the Care Hub, and ensuring successful integration of Counseling services into the College that supports the needs of students.POSITION RESPONSIBILITIESSupervise non-clinical staff to ensure consistency of service and quality of care.Oversee designated grant initiatives and programs, including, but not limited to budget management, meetings, reports and ensuring deliverables are met.Assist the Director with providing consultation and training to faculty, staff, and other student services regarding psychological development and behavioral health issues.Oversee and verify appropriate documentation of all student data in multiple modalities, including Titanium and Excel ensuring all data is properly and accurately maintained.Oversight and assignment of Onondaga Community College students completing their internship obligations in Counseling Services and/or the Community Care Hub.Manage crises and psychological emergencies, referring to appropriate local agencies and services as appropriate.Respond to parent/guardian/family concerns regarding students' personal wellness and behavioral health.Assist in the development and implementation of programs which target pertinent and relevant topics congruent with our college population.Participate in outreach efforts to students in crisis via the WeCARE program.Provide counseling services to a caseload of students, which includes the following:
Using individual or group modalities, provide flexible, responsive, high-quality, and evidence-based short-term counseling services to students.Conduct initial contact and initial evaluation of students, including determining appropriate disposition and referral.Provide crisis intervention in selected emergent/crisis intervention situations.Complete suicide assessments for our students in distress.Maintain confidential student files and appropriate record-keeping, according professional, ethical, and legal standards.Design and implement psycho-educational programming on a broad range of issues.Develop and implement individual goal plans when appropriate.Other duties as assigned by the Director.
Requirements:MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONSMaster's Degree in a health-related field.Licensed to practice counseling independently in New York State (LCAT, LMFT, LCSW, LMSW, LMHC, Licensed psychologist).Minimum four (4) years of related experience working in a counseling and/or case management role.
(1) year of graduate experience counts as (1/2) a year of professional experience.
Minimum of one (1) year of supervisory experience.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSTwo years of professional experience in Higher Education.Community College experience.Experience working within diverse populations.Background in triaging client crisis or urgency levels.Bilingual in English and Spanish. English and other languages will be considered.Specialty area of practice (i.e.- Anger Management, De-Escalation, Conflict Resolution, Eating Disorders, Substance Abuse/CASAC, PTSD, Justice System navigation, Immigrant and Refugee Populations, LGBTQ+).Ability to complete comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, using, at minimum, knowledge of the DSM-5 and mental health diagnoses within the ICD-10.KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, & ABILITIESOutstanding interpersonal skills and ability to work closely with peers and interdisciplinary team.Demonstrated understanding of and sensitivity to the needs of disadvantaged students.Strong interpersonal and communication skills.Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently and effectively.Demonstrated commitment to personal and departmental development, professionalism, multicultural education, creativity, collaboration, and initiative.Ability to manage multiple tasks and effectively prioritize among competing needs.Ability to utilize assessment to guide initiative development.Ability to handle confidential information in a professional and sensitive manner.Ability to communicate clearly and effectively with a diverse student population, parents and staff.Ability to form strong partnerships with a range of organizations including legal, financial and tax service providers, as well as resource partners on campus and across the community (i.e., housing).Possess a willingness to take initiative on new projects and embrace change.Additional Information:Salary range is: $58,564 - $73,205 ,
