Please see Special Instructions for more details.Position Purpose:To secure gift commitments of up to $5,000,000 from a diverse constituency in support of Dartmouth Cancer Center’s institutional priorities. The Associate Director will manage a select portfolio of prospective donors, demonstrating successful cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of major donors. The position will work closely with various members of the Medical and Healthcare Advancement and Dartmouth Cancer Center staff to help support philanthropic strategies and achieve strategic fundraising goals through the solicitation of patients, families, alumni and community members.Required Qualifications

Education and Experience:Bachelors plus 6 or more years' experience or combination of education and experience.Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:• Ability to work with and command the respect of senior officers, faculty and administrators, and high-level volunteers.• Excellent oral, written, and project management skills.• Excellent organizational skills.• Strong interpersonal skills, and adept at both negotiating and diplomacy.• Ability to work both independently and as part of a team; self-motivated and proactive.• Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to set priorities.• Expertise in operating database, spreadsheet, and Web-based software applications in a complex computer information system environment.• Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion; understand and follow HIPAA guidelines.• Strong commitment to diversity.• Brings a sense of humor and joy to work.Experience:• Six or more years of demonstrated success in fundraising in a complex development organization.• Experience working in an academic medical system or university environment preferred.• Demonstrated experience soliciting and closing five and six-figure gifts appreciation for the solicitation process. Experience in pipeline development, moves management and the identification and management of volunteers.• Deep understanding of and appreciation for the philanthropic process and individual giving behaviors combined with direct solicitation experience.• Ability to travel approximately 30-40% of working days; some evening work required.Preferred Qualifications

Develops and implements qualification, cultivation, and solicitation strategies for a portfolio of 125-175 prospective donors capable of making comprehensive gifts up to $5 Million in support of institutional priorities.Ensures stewardship is provided to donors on existing endowment and current-use funds.Identifies prospective donors to participate in special events, committees, or other activities that promote the cultivation process.Travels to visit prospective donors and coordinates visits with Dartmouth Cancer Center leadership.Partners with the Friends of the Dartmouth Cancer Center team to identify new major gift donors and develops strategies for increased giving from existing donors.Documents and records all activities as appropriate in fundraising databases.Program & Planning Management

Works with the Director of Development, Dartmouth Cancer Center, Advancement and clinical staff to identify fundraising priorities and articulate compelling cases for support.Implements strategies for sending written communications to custom institutional correspondence, executive summaries and cases for support, proposals, and other materials for all assigned prospects.Participates as a development partner with physicians and nurses who are a part of the philanthropy training program.Produces and assists in the successful execution of a wide array of regional in-person and virtual engagement events, including the annual Prouty.Travels to Hanover/Lebanon as needed for donor and faculty meetings, planning and professional development purposes.Demonstrates a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and cultural awareness through actions, interactions, and communications with others.Performs other duties as assigned.
