Job Description

Position Title: Child Care Center Associate Director

Reports To: Child Care Center Director

Our mission at High Hopes Child Care Center is to serve families by delivering exceptional, comprehensive and inclusive child care services in the communities in which we operate.

General Summary:

Responsible, along with the Center Director, for day-to-day operations of the center. The Associate Director will ensure that children in attendance receive exceptional care while simultaneously managing all other aspects of the business operation and ensuring regulatory compliance with all applicable state and/or federal guidelines.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

Coordinates daily work, scheduling and operations of the center.

Hires and trains center staff.

Coaches, trains and mentors staff members.

Managing, directing and evaluating staff members.

Discipline and termination of employees and in accordance with policy.

Works with DHHS and other applicable agencies to ensure regulatory compliance is maintained.

Responds to and addresses parent concerns in a timely manner.

Collaborates with outside service providers and vendors to maintain orderly operations.

Ensures that volunteer parents and/or staff is properly vetted, monitored and given appropriate direction while in the facility.

Essential Job Functions:

Fulfills the duties of the Center Director as needed in the event of his/her absence from the center.

Responsible for the writing, periodic review, maintenance and implementation of center policies and procedures.

Maintains required paperwork and reports on students, center operations, incident reports, and other documentation.

Communicates all pertinent updates to policies and procedures to impacted staff and/or parents as needed.

Responsible for ensuring employee files and child files are up to date with all required information at all times.

In the event of an inspection in which a deficiency is found, the Associate Director will work with the Center Director to understand the deficiency, the required corrective action and to implement the necessary changes immediately.

Develops and maintains positive relationships with parents.

Encourages parental involvement in and support of center programs.

Maintains a visible presence throughout the facility.

Enforces safety and security standards for children, staff, and visitors.

Provides or leads workshop and training sessions that are beneficial for teachers and teaching assistants.

Works with the Center Director to create, plan, develop, and implement the annual budget.

Performs other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Thorough understanding of licensing requirements along with other local and state guidelines.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with adults and children.

Ability to create a positive, safe, and nurturing environment for children.

Ability to collaborate and communicate with teachers, support staff, parents, and students in a positive and constructive way.

Excellent organizational and administrative skills.

Ability to plan, manage, and evaluate curriculum.

Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite, Brightwheel and other software as required for recordkeeping and documentation.

Ability to pass required state and federal background checks.

Willingness to submit to drug testing as requested by employer.

Must be able to meet all required training, certifications and CE requirements for role within the timeframes specified by DHHS.

Education and Experience:

Qualified candidates must be at least 19 years of age, be of good moral character and meet one of the following requirements:

Hold a bachelor’s degree in early childhood education, education or child/youth development with teacher certification preferred;

Hold a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with at least six credit hours in early childhood education, education or child/youth development;

Have an associate degree from an accredited college or university in early childhood education, education or child/youth development;

Have a Child Development Associate Credential; or

Have a high school diploma or GED and 3000 clock hours of verifiable experience in organized group activities for children age birth to 13 as indicated by a positive reference from a former employer or supervisor and:

a. Have successfully completed six credit hours or 36 clock hours of DHHS Department-approved training in administration, early childhood education, education, or child/youth development. Business courses may be included, not to exceed one-half of the credit or clock hour requirement; or

b. A written, DHHS Department-approved plan to acquire at least six credit hours or 36 clock hours of Department-approved training in administration, early childhood education, education, or child/youth development, in a period not to exceed 12 months. Business courses may be included in the plan, not to exceed one half of the credit or clock hour requirements.

Physical Requirements:

Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

Must be able to actively engage with students in a classroom which may involve prolonged periods of standing, sitting or kneeling.

Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $17.00 - $19.00 per hour
