Location:

Purpose:

This position serves as a Quality Assurance Officer for the Bureau of Laboratories and performs a full range of quality assurance assignments to ensure that the Bureau of Laboratories (BOL) is in compliance with applicable state and federal regulatory standards as well as accreditation requirements for laboratory testing on human and environmental specimens.

Duties and Responsibilities:Coordinate preventive maintenance, calibration, and repair of laboratory equipment including but not limited to centrifuges, temperature equipment, balances, pipettes, chemical fume hoods, biological safety cabinets, dry heat ovens, autoclaves, evaporators, and water purification systems.

Provide quality assurance assistance to ensure that laboratory practices follow regulatory and accreditation requirements, including monitoring the completion of proficiency testing, nonconforming events, and staff competency assessments.

Perform evaluations of laboratory media and reagents to ensure they are performing as expected prior to use by the laboratory.

Collaborate and serve as quality assurance liaison with laboratory and other parties as directed by the Quality Assurance Section Manager.

Serve as a backup for other functions performed by the BOL Quality Assurance Section.

Always represent the best interests of MDHHS and MPHI.

Qualifications/Requirements:Education:

A bachelor's degree in a biological science, chemical science, clinical laboratory science (medical technology), or a similar field.

Experience:

At least two years of experience working in a clinical diagnostic testing laboratory or environmental testing laboratory. Experience associated with quality assurance programs is preferred.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements:

The candidate must have the ability to sit and/or stand for long periods of time. The candidate must be able to complete full days of focused computer work as well as full days of repetitive pipetting, walking, standing, bending, squatting, transporting, and lifting (limited to less than 40 pounds). This position regularly works with and around infectious substances and must understand and employ universal precautions in a laboratory environment.
