At United Utility, we are committed to powering progress and fostering a diverse, inclusive work environment.About The RoleThe Design Supervisor oversees a design team associated with the Hardening of Green Mountain Power’s electric grid. This role involves continuous feedback, direction of work, performance evaluations, and training for the team. The supervisor monitors the overall design process, including overhead design, inventory, pole boring, structural analysis, and construction prints. Quality checking of team’s work and updating the team on new project design standards are also integral aspects of the role. Additionally, the design supervisor prepares for and attends client engineering and construction meetings.Key ResponsibilitiesDecision Making : Provides guidance on resolving design and employee-related issues. Exercises judgment within established procedures and practices to determine appropriate actions. Erroneous decisions may lead to resource wastage and disruption of client projects.Communication : Engages in internal and external communications with project stakeholders, including superintendents, supervisors, designers, and client engineers.Scope and Complexity : Works on mid to high complexity projects where judgment is essential for problem-solving and decision-making. Receives minimal instructions on routine work and broad guidelines on new assignments. Autonomy is expected after an initial review period, with management oversight focusing on the project's final outcome.Supervision of Others : Supervises Designer I, Designer II, Designer III, ROW Agents, and Lead Designers.Key QualificationsBachelor’s Degree OR equivalent related experience of 4 years.2 years of experience in distribution or storm hardening design.Held position as Designer 2 or higher for a minimum of 6 months.Key Nice-To-HavesProven ability to manage design personnel, including senior designers.Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, encompassing Excel, Word, Power Point, and Power BI.Strong problem-solving skills, organizational abilities, and adeptness in managing evolving standards from diverse clients.Demonstrated excellence in communication.Experience leading pre-engineering and pre-construction meetings.Proficiency in conducting comprehensive work reviews and job closings.Capacity to maintain high-quality work output while ensuring productivity.Key InfoWhile performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit for long periods of time; talk or hear; perform fine motor, hand and finger skills in the use of a keyboard, telephone, or writing.
