Are you an aquatics professional ready to take the next step in your career in recreation? The City of Martinez is seeking a dynamic and experienced Recreation Supervisor to join our team! This role will provide leadership and oversight of the city’s aquatics program, while supervising a Recreation Coordinator and managing a team of four part-time Recreation Leaders in camps, sports programs, and special events.This position offers a unique opportunity for professional growth in a small, collaborative recreation division. As a key member of our team, you’ll work in a supportive, team-oriented environment, where you can build on your leadership and program management skills across multiple recreational domains.Under direction of the Director of Parks and Community Services Division, organizes, coordinates, and promotes a wide range of City-wide recreational activities and events; does related work as required.EXAMPLES OF DUTIES:Creates, plans, and monitors seasonal instructional and competitive sports events for children and adults; directs all instructional fee programs, City-wide playground programs, related excursions and special events and all aquatics programs; supervises paid and/or volunteer activity leaders and contractual employees or groups; meets with interested groups and individuals to discuss recreation programming and facilities; interprets City-wide programs to the public; supervises the maintenance and accounting of the City's recreation equipment and materials; prepares reports, forms and other written material as needed for the various activities; responsible for the formulation, interpretation and enforcement of Rules and Regulations for all city sponsored sports leagues and related community activities in accordance with commonly accepted practices.Qualifications:Minimum: Graduation from a four-year college or university degree program with a major in recreation or a related field and

two years

experience in recreation or a related field; possession of a valid California driver's license with a satisfactory driving record; ability to pass a pre-employment physical examination.Desirable: Knowledge of the objectives, methods and techniques of public recreation; of related facilities and equipment; of rules and regulations related to a variety of sports (softball, basketball, volleyball, swimming, etc.). Ability to assign appropriate priority to tasks; to train and supervise activity leaders; to communicate effectively with the public and represent the operatives and policies of the City. Possession of Red Cross Standard Certificates in First Aid, Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation and Water Safety.Application Screening:Applications, resumes, supplemental questionnaire and/or other required documentation will be evaluated on a comparative basis. Those individuals whose materials best indicate possession of the stated requirements may be invited to continue to the next step in the selection process.SUPPLEMENT QUESTIONNAIRE:All applicants are required to complete the questionnaire. This questionnaire will be used throughout the examination process to assist in determining each applicant's qualifications and acceptability for the position.SELECTION PROCESS:A select number of the most experienced and best qualified applicants will be invited to participate in the examination process consisting of an oral board interview. The pass point of the exam is 70%. Applicants must pass all examination components in order to qualify for placement on the eligibility list.
